Will the UNC-CH Belichick hire be a success?

I just heard on the radio when talking about his contract, the rev share for football of that 20m total NIL is 13m. In an interview with the AD Bubba (classic) yesterday, he said on air that they are doing all this to position themselves as a plug and play SEC or Big10 program.

With 105 roster spots, that $13M comes to an average of almost $123,810 in NIL funds per player. Of course, NIL won’t be allocated equally.

If football gets 75% of the House $20.5M revenue share, that’s $15,375,000. Divided by 105, that average to almost $146,438 per player.

Between NIL and rev share, nobody will be going hungry.

I guess my youthful heart still thinks there would be a shred of sanity in this crazy, mixed up college athletic world. If UNC leaves the ACC, it should only be to the SEC. Surely viewers care more about the SEC matchups than the bland B1G brands. But Oregon is in the Big Ten, so shows what value sanity has in this whole thing.

First step toward Pro College Football League

There is not a single college football player that takes their work seriously that wouldn’t want to play for him.

He is a 6-time super winning coach. He’s been to more super bowls than that too.

He could quite possibly be the greatest coach in the history of professional football as a result.

Chapel Hill will draw every single piece of talent in the country without question. Bellichek may not have suitable college experience but he will probably have access to the greatest college football players today.

SEC schools adding to ticket prices significantly to pay revenue sharing. Where this is going I do not know, but the ‘Super League’ will have to include private equity.

Things are looking way up in the ACC for football, particularly at ‘The U’ as they get their largest criminal booster out of prison thanks to Biden:

Shapiro has actually been out of prison since 2020 and in home confinement. Thing about a commutation is that it doesn’t expunge a guilty verdict so he will still have that on his record.

Net worth is listed as -$82M. Oof!

Not sure what that has to do with Belichick though it does remind me of that other more recent Canes booster - John Ruiz, the so-called “Miami NIL king” - who was flaunting his very public payments to UM athletes.

Per these numbers, Tar Heel football will get almost 64% of the $20.5M rev share, so definitely lower than that of a prevelant model divided 75% football, 15% MBB, 5% WBB, and 5% all other sports.

Isn’t the revenue sharing different than the NIL $20 million?

Yes, the $20.5M revenue sharing is separate and a result of the House settlement.

Gotta figure the govt is going to start sniffing around all this money.

Just reminded that in the power struggle between UNC-CH BoT chair John Preyer and AD Bubba Cunningham, Preyer got his way in the selection of Belichick. Can’t say that I have ever heard of a trustee getting directly involved in the hiring process - usually there on the tail end to provide the last line of contract approval.

If a university gets too involved with NIL will title 9 not come into play?

A lot is going to depend on the incoming administration, as well as whether Congress decides to get involved in college athletics. No definitive answer at this point but definitely on the radar of the NCAA and its membership, as well as lawyers.

I talked to Mike during the season, after the election. He said the GOP victory would likely yield some definitive action from the feds around NIL and the role of the NCAA. So there’s that.

Not sure if that was just his gut or if he has some info.

I feel you on the sentiment but this thread would exist no matter what school Belichick was coaching.

Belichick is the story here. Not the Heels.
