Windstream = Fail

First off, I dont use DSL for home service (learned not to the hard way)

But a good bit of people do. Business relies on Windstream (or atleast around me).

So today the girls are having trouble with the computers in the shop so I head in. We call tech support, only we dont have a dial tone. After about 1 hour of screwing around with our tech support on cell phones, I give up and call Windstream myself. They have no answer and will send out trucks, apparently it is localized to my shop only…

Then I wander next door, and they dont have phone or internet. Then I go over to Bestbuy to buy a cell phone charger for the store… and they dont have internet or phone either.

I call Windstream back and now they are telling me there must be a technical difficulty. I call around and most of the area is out of Windstream phone and internet. I call Windstream back and finally get some truth…

Their power is out at their office. That is why no one has internet or DSL. I thought that the phone lines wouldnt be affected by the no internet, or they would have generators or something. This is a big problem! No one can run credit cards safely and there is no check verification or anything.

There is some minimum voltage required to generate the phone signal. I don’t know all the electrical details, but phone lines have electricity in them. They will shock your ass if you ever cut one. The lines sometimes still work even when the power is out. One would think they would have a backup generator that could at least power their office, but that still might not be able carry the load needed for their customers.

/rant :unhappy:[/QUOTE]don’t you still need a modem that uses electrical power?

Can’t be right… They would have back up. I know they would. I am on my windstream DSL right now…

Not enough space here to describe how much Windstream sucks. Let’s just say you can call 5 times and not get the same answer twice. Good luck

Agree completely. Fighting billing issues for months now where they increased when they said they wouldn’t and the first person said I was right and would be refunded and they would fix it. Well, she refunded the difference, but never even put remrks in their system about it. So the next guy said I was wrong and got lucky the first time… gah!!

Clearwire…new product coming to Charlotte Nov 1st…WiMax.

Im finding this to be an issue with all DSL companies. TWC has been the hassle free one, despite all the complaints people give…

Holla!

I’ve had some issues with TWC in the past. One time they were a big pain in the ass. My parents’ internet kept going out and the phone did as well. They told us 3 or 4 times it was a bad modem and replaced it. Finally, a guy came out and told us it was the HBO filter killing the signal. He took it off, have never had a problem since.

Every other time I’ve had something come up, they’ve been pretty good about helping if I had any issues.

Not sure why people complain so much.

Lost one of my phone lines at home. The guy comes out and runs the line from outside thru my back door and into my home office and goes to lunch and says he will be back that afternoon to fix it. 2 days later I pull the wire out and throw it in the yard. 2 weeks later and many, many calls still nothing. 3 weeks later finally fixed but have a new wire in the yard. 4 months later the wire is finally buried.

They are the wors company I have ever dealt with but have a monopoly on phone service where I live.

Clearwire has phone service…

Unless your office in Iraq, this is straight up BS, Mandeep.

I e-mailed Verizon a week ago to tell them ESPN360.com needs me to have a Verizon e-mail & sign in to access. Do you think anyone responded yet?

What is the price of this WiMax and can I distribute it through my house on a router? (2 laptops, Wii, Xbox…)

I have TWC Roadrunner and have had one small problem which was fixed in minutes. I have been signed up them for over a year. My dad has a comparable connection/computer/speed, but has Windstream. The internet routinely crashes, they rarely have any answers, and have even fallen through on a promise to send someone out. He almost considers it a blessing when he only has a slow connection. CTC, which was pretty shabby, was a wundernet compared to Windstream.

Yeah my parents are on Windstream, and in a contract. I cant wait for them to get out of it. My parents have limited english and know computer basics. So they have no clue what to do when the internet goes out and the dicktards at Windstream have them go through these complicated steps. I cant wait to set them up on TWC

Use DSL at your own peril. As a rule you get slow internet, crappy customer service, and diabetes. I deal with these jokesters on a regular basis. They truly do help pay my bills, because a normal call to time warner which would take 10 minutes, will take 3 days and warning shots.

Good thing I charge by the hour!

WiMax isnt out yet, coming Nov. 1st. So I dont have exact prices, but it should be right around $30-$40/month.

And yes of course you can distribute it throughout your house.

Best part is…you just plug it into an electrical outlet and you have internet…no need for running wires through your yard or in your house

When it comes out let me know. I would like a demonstration showing that it works at my house and I may be interested. I know the other product didn’t have good reception at my house.

Will do, I may have a demo unit within the next few weeks.

And you are correct, WiMax is YEARS ahead of our previous product. I have seen them both side by side first hand, its incredible.
