YEAR 1 - Our Defense

Per Coach L:

As a former linebackers position coach it should be no surprise that we will be employing the 3-4 defense where linebackers are the stars.

3-4 Defenses tend to like the Pass Rush. It will be our primary anti-pass option and mostly from the outsides or, if we have a real bruiser on the end of the line, between the guard and tackle.

We won’t collapse a lot of QB’s passer pockets, but if we can recruit fast outside linebackers we can have some success getting to QBs from the outside.

Inside linebackers will be the primary line of defense againt up the middle runs. The D Linemens’ most important job in a 3-4 is to keep 4 or all 5 of the opponent’s O Linemen from blocking your pass rushers/linebackers.

The 3-4 emphasizes speed over size. We won’t need the biggest D linemen but they will need to have good footwork and they will need to be able to use that speed to tie down 5 Big O linemen.
