You can't spell FAILS without F, S, and L

How's this for a timeline. Hire a coach at the end of this football season during the shuffle - Jan 2010 He takes a year to get facilities and schedule of events to where he is comfortable, builds his coaching team, start recruiting - Dec. 2010 Recruit, recruit, recruit (redshirt class) for 2011-2012 season Recruit/schedule - Begin football Fall 2012 Play 3 years and improve - 2015 season ends start campaigning for on-campus stadium with the prospectus of going Div. Ia after completion, 3 years to campaign/construct 2019 stadium on campus, Division IA football. We'd be well into the next recession for the stadium campaign. It's time to save face Phil.

Quit with these good ideas ID! All this would require actual work by the school, you can’t expect that can you?

ARE YOU PEOPLE F@CKING RETARDED???

I cannot believe all the whining and complaining on this f@cking board.

ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE A F@CKING JOKE. THIS IS VERY SIMPLE, SELL 5000 FSL’s GET FOOTBALL.

THE FANBASE NEEDS TO RAISE 5 MIL TO SHOW THAT WE WILL SUPPORT A PROGRAM AND RAISE THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET A PROGRAM STARTED.

If we cannot sell them we have no business even talking about football.

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU HIRE A COACH TO COACH A TEAM THAT DOESN’T EXIST???

All this bitching about what we need to do to make football happen does absolutely no good and it’s just a bunch of meessage board bull****. If you can’t afford $1000 sorry, it sucks. But do you know some who can?? Encourage other to buy so we will have a team one day and maybe oneday you’ll be in a better financial position.

It is very clear what we need to do to make football happen and it is very reasonable, if we can’t acheive these benchmarks than we need to move on and stop embarrassing ourselves.
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU HIRE A COACH TO COACH A TEAM THAT DOESN’T EXIST???
Perhaps for the same reason you would build a stadium for a team that doesn’t exist?
ARE YOU PEOPLE F@CKING RETARDED???
???

Is this where I post that my wife and I are expecting and are possibly interested in purchasing a 3rd FSL for our future first born Niner since they will be about the age of needing a seat come 2013…? We already have paid first annual payment for two.

CONGRATS DUDE!

ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE A F@CKING JOKE. THIS IS VERY SIMPLE, SELL 5000 FSL's GET FOOTBALL.
or change the plans, $1000 an FSL for something that doesn't exist is a joke that obviously only diehards believe in. 5000 is obviously going to be tough, why would I think that? because I have been a naysayer for 10 months now, and we don't have 2000 yet.
THE FANBASE NEEDS TO RAISE 5 MIL TO SHOW THAT WE WILL SUPPORT A PROGRAM AND RAISE THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET A PROGRAM STARTED.
how are judy's donations going? She has to raise her couple 10's of millions too right?

I assume since nothing has been published for use of parading it around, i have to assume it doesn’t exist yet.

If we cannot sell them we have no business even talking about football.
if we can't sell them we have no business building a brand new stadium, not starting football.
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU HIRE A COACH TO COACH A TEAM THAT DOESN'T EXIST????
ummm, we will have a coach before we have a team, regardless of how this goes forward.

i can afford FSL's a couple times over, so this isn't about me.

This is about the people who aren’t even willing to donate $49 to join the 49er club, yet we expect $1000? Come on.

It is very clear what we need to do to make football happen and it is very reasonable, if we can't acheive these benchmarks than we need to move on and stop embarrassing ourselves. .
or again, change the plan. Too often this school does the same stuff over and over, same results, i.e. not starting football until now.

It’s ****ing bitching and whining Jimmy… It’s looking at this a little more realistically…

One plan is not working. If you have a business and one plan doesn’t work, the you re-vamp and come up with something new. Heaven forbid some people actually start thinking up some new ideas.

Like I said in the other thread, why not start trying to sell season tickets for the first 3 or so seasons since we won’t be on-campus anyway?

The last thing we need is for you or anyone else to start tearing everyone down for making suggestions of new plans and ideas for making this happen.

We all thank you so much for what you have done and are doing for this movement… But right now it’s just a movement…

I applaud anyone who is bringing a new idea to the table. EVERY penny counts now.

Edit: And one more thing… If the University wants the community to show the $5,000,000 support for the team, then the least they can do is show some commitment on their part, i.e. drawing up stadium plans, talking to conferences, at least THINKING about coaches.

Talking has gotten us this far, now BOTH sides need to step up.

The FSL deal is not perfect and perhaps things can be or should be changed some. Not having a monthly option off the bat was a bad judgement call and the economy is hitting many of us. The 5,000 number does seem high, more so when when compared to current 49er club membership. With all that said we should be able to hit 3,000 to 4,000 FSLs easy.

Me personally I would like to see close to 4,000 FSLs sold with the promise of premium seating (not the ends crap), discounted season tickets for x number of years and names engraved somewhere, something like what the Panthers did. Give these people something for making the dream come true. The rest of the tickets can be sold as season ticket packages with no promise of year to year seats (FLS buyer could sweep them up) and a higher season ticket price per ticket. This rewards the FSL buyer and it also opens a possibility for those who can not spend $1,000 per seat.

I hear what both sides are saying. We know what need to happen to make football a reality, just would like to see some creativity on the side of the AD to find other ways to help make this happen.

So I get tired of the low blow that I’m not a good enough fan or loyal enough fan to get FSLs.

The economy ****ing sucks, and eventhough I was laid off and found another job, I’m considered a success story during this time, there are people who are as big of fans as me who want FSLs who are still out of jobs, and I feel bad for them, and sadly there are going to be more to join them.
Thank you for spilling what I was about to. I really see the mojority of people on here who have bought FSL’s in one of two categories. The first category are the people who are well off enough and stable enough that the economy hasn’t effected them so much that $50 or $100 bucks a month means something to them. The second group is probably those people who still have parents paying the majority of their expenses, they r probably still in school/living at home/eating with Mom and Dad every night, and $50-100 is easy for them to come up with every month.

I don’t think most people pay attention to the news when it say NC is one of the worst states in the US for loss of jobs. Those people also have no clue what some of us have went through. For those who don’t let me sum it up for you…for those who do know I’m sorry…read no further:

I am 25yrs old 1.5yrs out of college working in architecture. I am making decent money…40k to be exact. I am comfortable and have no worries in the world. I hear about the FSL’s and pledge immediately…of course its not time to pay up yet so I give no money.

November 10, 2008…its a Monday afternoon at 1:30 after a nice lunch date with my girlfriend and ironically a long talk about niner football and our desire to buy FSL’s. I am working at my desk and a partner comes up and asks to speak with me in the conference room. I immediately knew what was coming. So i sit there in front of 6 partners and 3 of them have tears in their eyes and one says, ā€œBrent we didn’t want it to come to this, we hate to lose you, but we’re gonna have to let you go.ā€ No speeches, no long stories, no time to even say anything. It was that quick. I was handed a sheet of paper to sign…and two checks. One check for my unused vacation time…and one check for 2 weeks severance…2 f-ing weeks.

No need to explain or relive the anger, frustration, and helplessness that followed.

So the next week I file for unemployment. What a joke that is let me tell you. I go from making $3333 a month…to $1500, oh yeah that is before taxes. The bastards even kick you when you are down and make you pay taxes on unemployment. So that puts me at $1436/mo.

Now I dont know about you, but I am one of the lucky ones because I don’t have kids, don’t own a house, my truck is paid for. But I still have zero money left over. Let me break it down even more though: My expenses:

Rent is $350 for my share of the split, Utilities run on avg. $100, Car insurance is $107, Health insurance (since mine was IMMEDIATELY terminated) is $165/mo, Student loans are $217/mo, Cell phone is $65, and credit card bills that have been accrued over the last 8 months (these are minimums) are about $125 total. So those are bills that must be paid, which brings me to a meager amount of $1129/mo every month. So that leaves $307/mo left over for food and gas. Based on a 4 week month…that gives me $76.75 per week to spend on the personal things I need to live and gas to get me to the places that I must absolutely go to. GOD F-ing forbid something unexpected happens to myself, my truck, one of our 2 dogs, etc. etc.

So when I hear that call to people who pledged and didnt live up to it I get so pissed off I could shove that FSL right up their asses. You want me to not eat, go anywhere or take care of me first for a week out of every month to satisfy your desire to add football? I think not…it would be irresponsible spending on my part…they type of spending that the government, our employers, and the general US citizen does that put us in this situation to begin with.

I have been out of full-time employment for going on 9 months. I have put out over 200 applications nationwide…still nothing. I have a promise though…hence why I moved to Hilton Head…a promise that will hopefully be kept in a few weeks. But I keep telling myself i will start the payment plan for my FSL’s that I pledge for once I get another job…but I cant until the promise of a job becomes a reality first.

So please don’t anybody say we’re not true fans, or suck it up its 25, 30, 50 or 100 bucks a month. That 25 bucks has been feeding me each week for 9 months…all I have is hope that a job will come soon. I also have hope that forty niner football happens…but I cant live up to my pledge right now…and Im embarrased and sorry for making a promise I can’t keep (for now).

The end.

I’m sorry for your situation… But thank you for this statement.

I don't think anyone who loses their job should be expected to pay.

Hypothetically, In 4 years we are at memorial, no FSL’s, I imagine you are a season ticket holder, your girlfriend (or whatever she is at that point) as well. That is what i see for a lot of people. Instead, we have taken our fanbase, and divided it, not grown it, which was the intention.

Nobody is saying people like you or Char are bad fans or should have fullfilled you commitment no matter what. If you can’t afford it, you simply can’t afford it. I would love to have 4 Panther PSL’s and great seats in the lower level, but hey I can’t afford it. But the Panthers keep playing every Sunday and they have found people who can pay for those seats.

All you can do is what you can do. Can’t afford $1000, then encourage someone you no who can to buy them.
Nobody has a bunch of extra money laying around but the fact is we need to raise 5 Mil to get Football it is plain and simple.

So you want to spend millions of dollars on a stadium we will only play in for a couple years???

So you want to spend millions of dollars on a stadium we will only play in for a couple years???
I want football.

I think the current plan is unrealistic and dangerous.

We have divided an already small fan base into the ā€œhavesā€ and the ā€œhave notsā€, that is dumb. I want the brent’s of ninernation to enjoy college football at their alma mater.

I’d talk with the county and go into a partnership with them. I don’t think it would be millions, and even if it were, we’d have a place with the revenue of 24000 seats, not 15000.

I would develop a team, then I’d go for the pocket books.

So you want to spend millions of dollars on a stadium we will only play in for a couple years???

At least that will get us started for a lot smaller sum…and give the community something tangible to move forward with…a more definitive plan. Just saying.

I look at that as being more of an investment that will have great rewards…besides playing downtown and being that close to a large population that could walk to the game would be great for ticket sales. We would make that initial investment back much faster than we will if we play on campus while trying to build a fan base.

Forty-Niner football would be a downtown event on Saturdays…I don’t see it happening early on if we are on campus. Look at the success of Alive after 5, Panther tailgating, speed street…etc etc…it could work in our favor.

So you want to spend millions of dollars on a stadium we will only play in for a couple years???

Temple plays at The Linc (Philadelphia Eagles Stadium) and they can’t even fill the side stands of the lower section… Believe me. I’ve been to a couple games…

Anyone know the price to play at BOA Stadium?

Memorial Stadium will be fixed. I say we use it. I think we’ll be better off for developing a fanbase by using Memorial in the early years anyway. So do many others I’ve spoken to.

Brent, I am in the EXACT same situation as you. Making 50K a year, then one day my regional manager comes in on Feb 1st and says, All positions at my level have been cut nationwide. Now I am applying to positions which make half of what I made before, and not even getting call backs from them.

What gets me is, Come October, if everything goes right for football, and I dont have a job yet…I wont be attending any football games at Charlotte.
But you know what…thats ok with me, as long as we get a team, Im going to keep pushing the FSL’s, bc that means in the future I will at least have a chance at attending games, and seeing this great University growing and gaining the recognition it deserves!

So, for all you others out there, like Brent and CharSF…lets all hope something turns around, so WE can get a few more FSL’s up there! In the mean time, KEEP PUSHING THE FSL’S so that if all else fails, at least we will have the opportunity to see Niner Football reality.
