Pretty good season??? We probably aren’t even going to make the NIT… what is good about that?
We had 3 good wins this year… @ Louisville, @ Richmond, and vs. Temple. I’m not sure I would even count Louisville because they were missing three guards when we played them (not our fault, but if you take the top 3 guards off of any team and they are going to struggle). St. Louis ended with an RPI of 96… we did beat them in OT at home. If you want to count that as a good win, go ahead… but we did beat them before they really peaked.
After accounting for those 2 or 3 good wins, what are we left with? A bunch of wins over RPI 150+ cupcakes, and a bunch of games where we got our asses handed to us by good teams.
I can’t believe we have people who think a season without even making the NIT is now “pretty good.” Lutz set a precedent by being a (mostly) bad team over the last 5 years. Pretty amazing how far we’ve fallen.
We had a good season, when we were 18-5.
Since then, we’ve had a bend over & take it up the a55 season, going 1-6.

It has been an ok season but we are ready to be somewhat relevant again in college basketball and make the NCAA tournament. 2005 since our last NCAA appearance and 2001 since our last win.
There is nothing…I REPEAT…NOTHING…“pretty good” about being 18-5 (8-1) in the driver’s seat and finishing 19-12. Period.
Especially when we probably could have finished 5-3 or 4-4 down the stretch and still made the fucking tournament with how weak the at-large field is this year.
Losing 7 of the last 8 when you’re in first place is 110% unacceptable, regardless of what your preseason expectations were.

(coughs) THIS.
This season was 10x more depressing than last season. We actually had a chance to do something, then instantly gave it away.

There were no expectations to win by halfway through last season… only more dunks per game by Charlie Coley than we have had all season and an upset of a really good Xavier team.

obviously no one is happy with the late season collapse. I wouldnt say it was a pretty good year either. 1-7 was bad to finish but we knew 4 of those we knew we could lose (@dayton and RI, and home against X and richmond). I dont think they recovered from the 28 pt loss to Dayton. We won 8 more games this year than last with 3 new starters. I hope we at least get in the NIT.
We ended the season the way we started last season.
