Its hard to believe its been 10 years since Halton Arena has open.I just love the place. After following the team from Independence Arena to the Charlotte Coliseum and back to Cricket Arena. I am not saying that i am the biggest niner fan around. But i have been very lucky to attend every game at Halton but three. The last game i missed (my brothers wedding) was against Southern Miss.It was Gaylon Young senior year.I think it was in 99.I know i missed a game against VMI.Not sure what year that was.And one game in 98 in December.
My question is has anybody attend every game at Halton Arena? Their has to be someone other than Coach Lutz that has?My goal is to have most consective games attend at Halton Arena (knock on wood). Is their any way to find information about this?
dude congrats. i wish i could say the same thing. i love this team man. iād give my first and even second born for this team.

Iāve missed only 2 games: SLU in 1-97 (had the flu very BAD) and Marquette in 3-01, Diegoās last home game because I was on my way to loserville for the CUSA Tourney that we won over sincy the following week end.
I can think of 5 or 6 right now (Aaron and Joan Baker, Gene & Vickie Johnson, Boyd Cauble) that have not missed a game in Halton and would extend back to Independence Arena and probably the Coliseum days too.
To the best of my knowledge Celia Laney in the 49er Club office has missed one game since 1975, maybe longer (death of her husband).
Thats flat out amazing. I have been a fan of the team since the late 80ās cause my first live bball game was a niner win which Iām almost positive was in the newly opened Charlotte Coliseum (I was only like seven years old though). But I am a relative newcomer to the diehard fanbase. Fraid I didnāt become one til I decided to go to school there in 2001. Oh yeah, and Halton Arena is the greatest!!!
I never made it to Halton, mabey next year.
I applaud anyone that can make it to that many games. Thereās a lot of bellyaching on this board about the team sometimes but at least some get to see all the games. Living out of town sucks sometimes. I remember first walking into Halton. It was 98 and I was really amazed. Awesome facility that just needs an awesome tradition. Ten years is not enough so hereās to the next ten!!
Well⦠Iād take my first born and possibly my second born to a game in Halton
Iāve missed many games at Halton due to a variety of crap jobs, but I go whenever I can. I did attend every one last year, though. Its so good to have an on-campus home. Most students didnāt go to games at these old places. Here are the different venues Iāve seen Charlotte play in as its home:
Old Charlotte Coliseum
New Charlotte Coliseum
Mineshaft
Independence Arena (I know, it was only a name change.)
Belk Gymnasium (Davidson, NC)
Halton Arena (The SAC, baby!)
Iām an old timer. Saw Cedric and Co. in the '76 NIT (back when that tournament meant something) in Madison Sq. Garden. We beat NC State, but lost to Kentucky in the finals. NYC fell in love with āCornbreadā. Also was able to attend the '77 final four game. My buddy got so mad we left right after the Marquette game and sold our final tickets to two guys who just happened to be walking down the street. Iāve still got programs and stuff from those years. My daughters have been coming since they were infants. My youngest is a freshmen this year at Charlotte.
Since 94-95, Iāve missed 6 home games,
2/95 UNC-G, The Pepsi tourney in 12/02, LBSU 12/04, Richmond 2/05
Also was the first student to get tickets for the Halton Arena opener vs. NC-Tweetsie. Believe it or not, there was no campout for those tickets, nor was there a line when the ticket office opened that morning.

Bet youāre glad you missed that one.
Wish I had, I went down to Charlotte for 3 straight days of misery.

Speaking of Cornbread, I was watching TV this weekend and came across the movie āCornbread, Earl, and Me.ā I had never seen it and heard it was where he got the nickname from so I watched some of it. Movies sure have come a long ways since 1975. I watched it up to where they shot Cornbread and I turned it off.

You didnāt have as long a trip as I did. Man, that sucked.
Iāve still got my green shirt that they gave out at Halton Arena when they opened it. It was my freshmen year and I remember they had a laser light show and all kinds of stuff. Me and my buddies came over from Moore Hall and it was the first taste of disappointment we had at Charlotte. We figured the place would be packed and there were maybe 2,000 students there. Anyone else go to that?

I have 2 white t-shirts with ā49āers Prideā on the front and āno place like homeā and the schedule for 1996-97 on the back. Anyone else still have these jewels?
Iāve got the second one. Does anyone besides me still have a 1977 Final Four shirt?
