nice catchâŚi must have been to busy shaking my head in disgust to look any further down the list
Bonnie Cone simply rocked!
No longer living in Charlotte, we donât always hear all the latest on UNCC and their quest for a football team. I know committees have met and study after study done, but have they asked alumni to what degree they would be willing to financially support a football team? My wife and I both are UNCC alumni. I know for a fact that they have our phone number and mailing address (they keep calling for donations). I have yet to get a call or a receive a survey in the mail asking if we would be willing to financially support this venture. We both graduated back in the late 90âs and the whole time we were there, getting a football team was always one of those things most seemed to want, but were afraid to pursue simply because of Bonnie Cone. I even remember doing in depth feasibility studies (for class projects) on the issue for some of my business classes hoping they might lead somewhere. But they obviously never did.
Will Spangler and Friday have to be pushing up daisies before anyone will have the nads to seriously pursue this? We live in Raleigh. The support Carolina and State has for their programs is insane (as most anyone can tell you). They have a lot of alumni who throw an awful lot of money at those schools because of those football programs. Itâs almost a religion for some.
I think that what we (as UNCC grads) all want as much as a football team is that spirit⌠something thatâs always been somewhat lacking. Donât get me wrong, we have a good b-ball program, but it just doesnât have the draw a football team would. Academics is extremely important, but Iâve never seen anyone swell with excitement and sing a fight song until theyâre hoarse for a good business lecture.
Besides GW who has no interest, we are the the only school considered to be in one of the major conferences. All the other conferences nobody really cares about. Charlotte definitely has the most potential, and most to gain from football.Charlotte is in a major conference. The problem is they do not sponsor football so they will have to find a conference and going for a spring board to DI FBS I think they will have a hard time finding a conference to do that for them.
