Fair enough - still sounds like something she would say though. Her sales pitches are right in line with that.

Observer couldn’t pass up a chance to call Dean Smith “legendary”.

“Dean’s Myth” (the carolina way = decades of academic fraud)

One of the synonyms for “legendary” is “mythical”, and the folks at the O are trained specialists when it comes to writing myths about chapel hill.

i thought Legendary was his first name. Legendary Coach Smith.

clt missed a hole in one by two inches. The hole was a temp green while the club switched greens to champion Bermuda.

Just noticed the famous Lattenaer Kentucky pass-catch win is the exact same play Marquette used to beat us in 77…. Baseline pass to foul line turn and shoot, Maxwell actually had his hands on it, ball bounced the right way for Marquette.

Whitehead climbed over Max’s back (foul) to get the ball. He then put up a short shot that went off the back of the rim which he promptly committed basket interference to score the “winning” goal. We were robbed. I’ll never be convinced otherwise.

Someone recently told me that the inbounds pass actually went off the fingertips of one of our players in Marquette’s backcourt, which would have meant the clock would have started at that time and would have run out before the winning basket. Of course, technology was not then what it is now. Now, in that situation, replay could confirm and we would win. Then again, no way in Hell would a player like Cedrick Maxwell be overlooked in recruiting like he was then. Different times.

Edit: I should have said the game would have gone to overtime. I think we probably would have lost, anyway. We had a very short bench and one of our starters was fouled out at the time.

Maxwell should have been behind Whitehead. There was little chance that Whitehead would make a turnaround shot in 3 seconds. Mistake on our part. I also don’t remember a tip as the ball was thrown pretty high and long.

Whitehead did foul Maxwell over the back. It was a great game and a shame we didn’t get to play Chapel Hill in the finals.

You would not have remembered a tip as it was described to me. Our player allegedly got a fingertip on the ball immediately after the inbounds passer threw it in. Would have been very hard to detect if the flight of the ball was not significantly altered.
