Can anybody tell me when the official basketball schedule will be posted?
Last year it was released on 8-31.

BTW, Davidson has home games versus UMass (11/22/05) and Saint Joe’s (11/26/05). Gives us Niners a chance to check out a couple of conference foes that we won’t see at Halton until 06-07.
GO NINERS! GO A-10!
Checking out the Temple board and the Owls are facing yet another difficult OOC…
Nov 15 - Army (NIT)
Nov 17 - vs. UCLA/New Mexico State winner (NIT)
Dec 3 - Penn (Big 5 tripleheader)
Dec 10 - Alabama
Dec 21 - South Carolina
Dec 31 - Villanova
Jan 28 - Maryland
Feb 25 - vs. Duke @ Wachovia Center
@ Rutgers (date TBA)
@ Princeton (date TBA)
vs. Miami-Fla (date/site TBA)
Also, nice to see that Coach K refuses to play virtually any OOC on their home court. Last year it was Davidson at the Charlotte Coliseum, Valpo at the United Center in Chicago, and Oklahoma at Madison Square Garden. The only OOC the Devils played on that team’s homecourt was St. John’s in the Garden!
I am definitely not a Duke fan (in fact I dont like them at all), but I think it’s safe to say the home teams don’t mind playing in those large buildings - more seats, more tickets, more money. I doubt if anyone would want to play Duke on their home court when you can make thousands upon thousands more by playing in a cavern elsewhere in the city and fill it up.
I think they try to wait until all the fine details are worked out. A change in schedule causes a lot of problems and mis-communications. Dates and times need to be worked out. Im sure the Athletic Dept will release the official schedule as soon as possible. I remember a game I drove to (100 miles round trip) only to find the parking lot empty (and realized they had issued a game date change). Im glad for them to take a few extra weeks and nail it all down. Looks like we have a good lineup of teams we will be playing.

[/b]Matt, once that neutral site is paid for, etc., I wonder just how much money has been made by the home team. The box score for last year's Davidson-Duke game listed an attendance of 8,700. Yes, that's 3,000 more than Belk Arena holds but way below the 23,000 the Coliseum can handle for basketball.
I’ve been in Belk Arena when it was sold out (a Davidson-College of Charleston game was the last time) and the place is really rocking! The fact is that Coach K has the upper hand in scheduling and his 2-for-1 is really a 2-0-1 in that he gets 2 home games, then a neutral site. I’m sure McKillop would prefer the Blue Devils in a raucous Belk with almost 6,000 rather than a one-third full Coliseum. Alas, though, I guess you take what you can get just so you can get the game.
I wouldn’t be fooled into thinking teams are getting a fair deal when they play Duke at a neutral site. I seemed to remember a year ago that Duke was getting something like 60% of the tickets.

I agree, but, I’m sure they got a pretty good deal to use the building on a night it probably otherwise wouldn’t have been used. I don’t know the details, obviously. Still, an extra 3,000 or so fans times the average ticket price is a pretty good deal. (Aside from the visibility factor of the fans who wouldn’t go to Belk but did go to the Coliseum).
Even if Duke got a large percentage of the gate vs. some teams, it’s probably because they can charge a premium for tickets, and, the Dookies travel well (i.e. bring a lot of fans with them).
I’m sure these schools aren’t foolish enough to let K pull one over on them … they all have degrees and are making a lot of money on those games. And, factor in that you can’t always get a “name” to come play you on even terms, and you realize that you have to play it at those sites to get those extra fans, extra cash, to make it worth it for the “name” to come and play you.
Davidson has had their biggest paydays when we play UNC and Duke in the Coliseum. Obviously the coaches and players would like to play them at Belk Arena, but the administration likes the money.
Rent usually runs about 30k or so (I think, not certain. I bet it will be higher in the new building) and we usually keep the vast majority of the revenue. When we return they keep the revenue.
Davidson has total control of ticketing, etc. They do not get to bring their band. It is our home game. Duke/UNC will get the obligatory seats behind their bench. Tickets are offered to Davidson fans and alums prior to public sale. Once sales are public anyone can buy. As there are more of them than us they usually are the majority in the building, while we have the best seats.

I stand corrected.
Cat, thanks for the clarification.

Hopefully, something similar will happen with the WFU game in the new Charlotte Arena.
