eesh… my “opinion” the start of the suckiness. This is the year the 05 recruiting really started to kill us, add in Me’angelo and you have a disaster.

Can someone tell me why we are bringing up a terrible season?

I’m glad I graduated that fall so I didn’t have to take part in that misery for very long. Be it I stand by my team but that year was laughable (Unfortunately much like this year). But I buy my season tickets every year and am proud to do so.

Here's my 2 cents. THAT SEASON SUCKED. End of discussion.

Good question.

NOt as bad as this last one…IMO

Worse in my opinion. We sucked last season partially because of injuries. The lineup we had in 06-07 is just painful to look at.

I will disagree I love Leemire and EJ as players, but other than that it was a giant cluster of mismatched parts and a lack of basketball IQ. It seemed we didn’t always give 100 percent effort (not saying we did or didn’t, just that it did not always look that way). Our “best player” was De’Angelo who was not willing to carry a team like Leemire would the next year. George Washington was a heartbreaking bull crap loss, but Davidson made me want to throw up more.

2008-2009 was marred by injuries and defections. This team however never seemed to give up, wanted to be Niners, and seemed like a group of guys who would be friends with anyone and everyone and were not stand-offish. We can see a light at the end of this tunnel. I did not see one after that year. We were young this year overall, but that year I mean jesus, the only non-senior who played that we saw contributing anything more than being a role player was Leemire and he was a junior.

I would rather win 5 games with a team that had troubles that they could not control than watch a team win 14 games and seem like they didn’t really care enough.

Tough season to go through.

One bright spot is that we actually won AT Richmond, haven’t done that in two years.

That season we were supposed to have both Wilderness and Jones, right? Wilderness went to prep for a year, and Jones was declared ineligible.

not me…

Definitely. The 06-07 season was absolutely awful and so was the team. Last year we underachieved a lot, had injuries, and lost a lot of close games. Last season appeared on paper worse than it actually was.

I’m not sure if the 06-07 team didn’t OVERachieve. It really was accurately described as a cluster ****. This was our worst season IMO.

While totally forgettable, this season still has a right to be thread since it is part of Niner history. But seriously, Pip, can you tell me what made you decide to start a thread on this season?

I’m just working my way back through time, I started with 07-08.

Every season has its place.

The lineup we had in 06-07 is just painful to look at.

Every time we took the court I felt like the team was built for a pick up game at the Y. We flat out sucked that year! Can someone stop this thread before it gets blown out of proportion.

I think the “legend” of how baaaaad that team was is growing. It was bad, it was NOT the worst ever and if the team sucked that bad, how the heck did it manage to win 14 games? As usual, some posters seem to exaggerate on most every topic!

We won 14 games because (according to KenPom) we only beat teams rated 117 or worse. 8 sub 200 teams and 6 117-200 teams. We had far more blowouts and not close games.

Not sure anyone said it was the worst ever, just that it was our worst team in recent years, certainly the worst since our great plummet. It was most definitely a painful, sloppy, rec-esque team to watch. Not to mention it pissed me off that DA was the leader and Lee Gold was much cooler.

I actually enjoyed some of the games this year and liked our team a lot, making our terrible record that much more heartbreaking. I don’t really remember caring much the 06-07 season and I’ve always been a big 49er basketball fan. It just wasn’t exciting… not that this season was, but it had its moments. We beat Xavier, the Clemson game was a nail biter, and I will always remember Coley’s dunks, his blocks, and that two handed reverse alley oop that Coleman dunked. Last season was horribly bad mixed with a little bittersweatness, the 06-07 season was just plain bad.

Have to look at it from where I stand, I started at Charlotte in '01 so you can see what teams I got to watch. I finished the fall of '06 so this was the last team I saw as a student. That is why I feel it was terrible and the move to the A-10 didn’t help my feelings either (Even though I understand that C-USA was a lost cause after the Big East realigned).

........Even though I understand that C-USA was a lost cause after the Big East realigned....
And will now become even more of a lost cause.

Since these 2 seasons are being compared, put me down for liking this year’s team much better… MUCH BETTER. And that’s all because of their attitude.

While I am at it I will add the media guide from that season.

 don’t get that first bolded comment. I ALWAYS care too much. That doesn’t come and go with the attitudes of some of the players…I did like the “Chemistry” of this years team better than 06-07 team yes, but I’m sorry I’ll take 14-16 over 11-20 anyday----although they are both very depressing…:unhappy:
