That’s not a bad field. Records and RPIs (and any postseason tourney) from this past season…

Charlotte (A-10) 20-14 #69 NIT
Arizona State (PAC-10) 21-13 #83 NIT
Baylor (Big XZII) 21-11 #43 NCAA
Cal State Fullerton (Big West) 24-9 #79 NCAA/Big West champs
Providence (Big East) 15-16 #112
Saint Mary’s (West Coast) 25-7 #36 NCAA
UTEP (C-USA) 19-14 #102 CBI
Wake Forest (ACC) 17-13 #100

Edit - Run beat me to it.

Good field.

And, of course, the obligatory reference to us as “UNC-Charlotte”(though the official release gets it right)!

Also refer to Saint Mary’s as “St. Mary’s” (see Saint Joseph’s and Saint Louis). Speaking of the Gaels, I found a reference to Charles Dewhurst in this release from the SMC website:

Joining Golden on the first team were, Jon Scheyer (Duke), Tal Mekel (Wichita State), Derek Glasser (Arizona State), and Drew Houseman (Harvard). Honorable mention honorees include Michael Gruner (Lafayette), Heiden Ratner (James Madison), and Charles Dewhurst (UNC Charlotte).

Jim, will you wear Mickey Mouse ears during games while providing the Uttercast from the tournament?

jim. any idea when the pairings will be released. i know it says “later date”. this is big since there ae 2 local schools playing in the tournament.

looking forward to actually being able to watch ourselves this year!

Is SMC losing a lot from last year’s team?

[edit] I’ll answer my own question - it looks like they are only losing Tron Smith, a 6th man type guard. All the starters are back.

That’s gonna be a tough out.

Is Baylor similarly positioned, or were they senior heavy?

I know Baylor has been given accolades for emerging from the ashes after the Patrick Dennehy scandal from a few years ago and gaining their at-large bid. They’re in the middle of a turnaround that did not seem possible when they were hanging around #250 in the rpi not too long ago.

I know their recruiting is in top-notch shape: http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?sport=2&pr_key=41491

NA, they also lose the aforementioned Golden. Top 3 scorers back (all double figures), including last year’s Aussie frosh phenom, Patrick Mills.

USAToday.com: Saint Mary’s Team Report

SMC didn’t need much, but apparently the new players coming in are pretty good (at least according to Rivals)…

SAINT MARY'S

2008 recruiting class: SF Collin Chiverton 6-5/180; PF Tim Williams 6-7/210 (both 3-stars per Rivals)

Notes: Sure, a two-man class won’t put fear into the other seven teams in the West Coast Conference but the Gaels have a pair of players that should make a significant impact right away. Chiverton and Williams are good enough to help keep Saint Mary’s in the NCAA tournament. Williams, an undersized but effective power forward, should shine because of his brute strength and grit.

Star power: As the WCC becomes more and more balanced, teams outside of Gonzaga continue lock up all-conference, instant-impact type players. Chiverton is one of those players. The 6-foot-5 wing enters college on a great upswing. He helped lead his team to the state finals in California before losing to Orange County powerhouse Mater Dei. Chiverton has great size for his position and versatility that will be hard to match up with in conference play.

That’s a pretty good field, but it’s great that the whole tourny will be televised! I’m sure season ticket holders will have the option to by ticket packs and maybe even travel arrangements…anyone in Charlotte thinking about going?

I’ll be there! I’m so stoked to see the niners play in OC! We even have a bit of a home court advantage with Gerrity playing for us. Pre-Game party at my place! I live on the Beach in Huntington about 15 mins from the OC Convention Center. For those who aren’t familiar with the area… Disney Land is directly across the street… So some of you older married niners could come out and take the family there and see the game… not to mention the great fall weather we have and the beaches.

I have some room at my place a couple of niners could crash if they wanted to come and needed a place to stay. PM me for info

I was just in Newport Beach and Hungtington Beach a few weeks ago........ and I drove there from the Disney/OC Convention Center area.

I’m gonna try to make it out for the tourney. I won’t need a place to stay, but I’ll be glad to meet you for a beer or five.

It’s the offseason, so let’s vote…

Charlotte vs. Wake Forest final would be interesting?

oh yeah - and I voted me percentage point to chartown

Okay, 10 minutes of clicking (vote, back page, vote) I dropped the Baylor Bears from 44% to 34% and moved Charlotte from 20% to 35%. It’s time for others to run with it now.

A few more minutes of voting and we’re at 49%

maybe we should leave it at that.

60% wooh
