2010 recruiting

i was just looking through the new rivals150 and noticed that there is a lot of talent from north carolina. what positions of need do you guys think we will need to address? i think we will probably need a small forward, a center(even if phil gets his extra year) and then either a shooting guard or the best player available. some possible names that stuck out at me were first jay canty small forward ragsdale. three star ranked about 118 or so. former high point commit and now on the market since they fired their coach. darryl trayham. pg vance. seems like the type of point guard we have always coveted. small, fast, good passer. david nyursak. center from patterson school. 7’0" 220lbs. i would love to land another big guy so we dont have to play braswell at center. i know we offered ge-lawn guyn but it seems like he is waiting for indiana to offer and if they do then that is where he will go. there were other guys but i cant remember them all off the top of my head. im not trying to look ahead but recruiting is a year round process. anybody else have any thoughts?

PG and C. That’s all I can think of.

I would say SF, SG or combo guard, C in that order

SG, C, and PG are all needs unless Green is 1)good 2)going to spend most of his time at SG. If he turns out to be more of a SG, then PG is our most pressing need. If he turns out to be more of a PG, then SG is our greatest need. That is assuming Sirin will not be playing SG however.

All 5 positions are our biggest need.

Three to give, correct? (let’s assume Jones will earn his 4th year).

Dijuan Harris: PG

Ian Andersen: Much maligned SG

Rashad Coleman: SG/SF

Returning players

Chris Braswell: So. PF

KJ Sherrill: So. SF/PF

Phil Jones: Sr. C

Shamari Spears: Sr. PF/C

Gokhan Sirin: So. SF/PF

An’juan Wilderness: Sr. SF

Charles Dewhurst: Sr. SF

Derrio Green: Jr. PG/SG

Shamarr Bowden: So. SG

Javarris Barnett: Jr. SG/SF/PF

So I’d say one PF/C, one SF, one PG*

*could be filled by Parks

I’d say 1 - C/PF. Even if we have Jones, Spears and Braswell, it seems to take bigs time to develop, so we’re going to need another big the next year when we only have Braswell.

Then, like others have said, if Green turns out to be a PG then I would say SG, if Green turns out to be a SG then we’d need a PG.

SF would be the least of our concerns IMO still having Wilderness, Dewhurst, Barnett and Sirin.

I’d love to have a guard/forward who could make a mid-range jumper.

i say if we can land jerian grant, then i say we get him. we definitly need a center. we cant just have braswell as a big after phil graduates.

Only two of those players are natural SF’s, and they both have struggled to remain healthy. I could see some benefits in going after another guy here who is fast and on the smaller side, like Wilderness and Dew. I’d like to try and address it while we still have both of them, instead of waiting till they are leaving and not be able to land anyone with talent.

i think sirin will be a small forward in college. from what i have read that is his natural position.

this is just a rumor, i repeat, just a rumor. i was looking around the charleston southern message boards and as you know, leading scorer and i believe big south freshmen of the year omar carter has decided to transfer. when asked where he was going someone on the board said he was going to walk on here. that would be huge. this kid averaged 16 points per game and i think was the conference freshmen of the year.

link to the board? I couldn’t find one.

He actually averaged 14 and 7.

i found it from the winthrop board which is winthropfans.com. there will be a thread called links to other big south message boards.

He’s from Charlotte, so that rumor may have some validity. I’m sure Bobby and company scouted him out in high school. He is a monster rebounder for just 6’5, and can shoot it well from all over. http://espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36811

would be great if this turns out to be true. Even if he walks on, he’d have to sit out a year, correct?

Yes, he would.

If true, and he can play, then we will only need to sign a point guard and one big for next year.
