Do we have any that we know of? I am trying to talk some basketball fans into buying season tickets and they are more likely to buy them if we play a game or 2 in TWC. I don’t think the schedule is officially released until August and I’m thinking they may want to join the 49er Club This month
I know we have the Oregon State game but idk if it will be at TWC and ive heard rumors on us playing Miami…so I feel confident saying we are likely to have a TWC game again this year
I don’t think we should play Oregon St or Miami at TWC. Neither will bring near the fans that WFU, UT or Maryland did.
I’ve heard it multiple times that Oregon State will be in Halton Arena.
Haven’t heard anything new since we heard that Miami had interest in an MTE with us, no word on venues though.
Oregon State is at Halton. I’m pretty sure this was announced when the match up was revealed before last season.
As for Miami, if we create a tournament, I could see that being in TWC, but if it’s just a regular game, Miami would be at Halton too I would think. No reason to play anyone at TWC if we don’t have to. And when we do, it needs to be limited to high profile teams with regional ties.

Good I hadnt heard where OSU would be played, im glad its Halton. I still would like 1 game at TWC next year though
I would like 1 or 2 games a year at TWC, if the opponent is worth it. Miami isn’t, not is Oregon St.
clt says we will play pembroke out in front of the rdh.
I’m not sure I get the “worth it” aspect. I thought the idea of playing uptown was to attract new fans. If playing a single game uptown gains 1 new fan or season ticket holder I think it’s worth it.
If we gain fans and exposure, that’s great - but remember why we played a game at TWC to begin with…We played Wake Forest and Maryland the same year that Davidson hosted Duke and UNC. These four ACC schools all wanted a chance to play in TWC that year prior to the first ACC Championship being hosted there. It had nothing to do with anyone’s desire to play us - we just benefited from being local and getting two of the match-ups.
Then this past year we played Tennessee there because it was the only way they would agree to a home-and-home series. I’m sure they saw it as a chance to reach out to their Charlotte-based Alumni and get an easy win…too bad that didn’t work out for the Vols. 8)
So of the three games played at TWC, none of them were strictly for our benefit, although it was great exposure and a great atmosphere for each game. I feel like it is only ‘worth it’ to play a top-10 caliber team at TWC - everyone else should be forced to play in Halton.
I have said before, to schedule games against BCS schools, I am ok with away-home-away series as long as our home game is in Halton (like the Indiana series a few years back). We have great facilities and a real advantage when Halton is packed - we don’t need to give that up too easily.
yeah - you’re right. But the opponent has to be one that will attract people. Miami and Oregon State aren’t what I would consider major attractions. UT, Maryland, Wake - all teams people will come out for.
And I don’t just mean opposing fans. I mean casual fans. Thats where we win their hearts.

That sounds like the opponent’s reason for wanting to play there. I was referring to our reason for wanting to play there, to attract new fans. I agree Halton is an advantage and shouldn’t be given up easily. But we’re only talking about 1 game. If we don’t feel like the opponent is “worth it” we’ll never be able to possibly attract a new fan base by not playing there.
we have a beautiful on campus arena lets take advantage of it
We do have our reasons to play there, but we shouldn’t go down there for just anyone, Oregon State is included in “just anyone”.
All three opponents have had pretty large profiles, Wake as an in-state ACC school (after last season though, they have are included in “just anyone” with Ore St), Maryland was less than 6 years removed from a National Championship, and Tennessee who was Elite 8 in 2010 and been a Top-10 pretty much Pearl had taken over (now we know why).
The Cable Box is a great platform to put a show on for our city, but the opponent we take down there is a huge part of that.
we need to start setting the bar and having people come play at OUR HOUSE not just TWC because they are part of the “glorified ACC or SEC”.
I love to play at TWC, I dont care who we play.
Pregame a block away and then come into the area and keep up the good feelings with some more beer. The alcohol also helps me (and others, I’m sure) become more obnoxious to opposing fans and teams. What’s not to love?
We don’t have much leverage in that department.
Playing a big name at TWC will help us introduce ourselves to new potential fans. Believe it not, most people in Charlotte don’t have the need nor desire to head up to the University City area.

It’s amazing how difficult it can be to get people to travel to the University area from other parts of the city.
I’m a fan of the TWC games as long as we have the right opponent. Leaving the TN game last year, I was crossing Trade street when a random guy rolls his window down and asks me if “we” won. I replied “are you asking if Charlotte won?” He said, “yeah, did we beat Tennessee?” I had never seen the guy before in my life.
In Charlotte, if you are important, you are uptown.
I agree I just wish people would want to come and watch “us” play instead of going to a game just because we are playing a big name team
AMEN!!
