Leland Clemmons is a 2011 5'9"-155lb primary OF from Indian River HS in Chesapeake, VA playing for Coach Steve West . Leland showed he belongs at the top of the list of 2011 OF prospects on a "national level".
Piedmont High School standout, Brad Elwood (2011), recently announced his verbal commitment to the Charlotte 49ers! Elwood is a left-handed hitting prospect that possesses plus speed and a very mature offensive game. He is also a solid defender up the middle of the field whether he is at SS or tracking dpwn balls in the outfield. He is also a phenomenal student and teammate. Elwood will be competing with the 2011 On Deck O's-Black this summer and fall. Congratulations to the 49ers and the Elwood family!

Thats right… the latest in a long line of Piedmont boys becoming 49ers!!!
Figured it didn’t need it’s own thread but Niners get a verbal commitment from a kid who is local in regards to me. Plays at Riverbend which is just West of Fredericksburg, which is the city across the Rappahannock from Stafford where Maine played.
TRIO OF BEARS COMMIT
Three Riverbend baseball standouts have given oral commitments to Division I programs.
Pitcher/third baseman Nick Gianforte is headed to Georgetown. Second baseman Derek Gallello will play for the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and catcher Garrett Rioux has committed to Virginia Military Institute.
Riverbend coach Tim Stimmell said all three players found perfect fits for them athletically and academically.
"It couldn't have worked out better," Stimmell said.
Gianforte was a second-team all-Commonwealth District selection last season as a utility player. Gallello and Rioux earned honorable mention recognition.
Nice find. I think we have 2 other committments from VA for next season in OF Leland Clemmons (Chesapeake, VA) and 3B Scott Hurrell (Virginia Beach, VA).
[i]Derek Gallello | 2B/SS | 5’10/160 | Riverbend (VA) HS | 2011
Derek is a talented, athletic, middle INF with good skills. Defensively, Derek has quick feet, he presents his glove early, and he fields the ball from the right. He has soft / sure hands, he follows his throws, and he delivers the ball accurately with carry to his target. Added arm strength will only help strong defensive numbers get even better. At the plate, Derek has a good approach, simple set-up, and he flashes some barrel accuracy. He has some pop in his bat when he centers the ball, and he can hit to all fields. Hitting can only get better with looser actions and more bat speed. Derek will be a solid defender at the next level, and with some minor adjustments, he can be a threat with the bat too.
Michael Thomas, a junior from Lee Davis HS was the first Brave to announce his college choice. Thomas, a speedy, power hitting outfielder and left handed pitcher, chose UNC Charlotte in late last fall. All three players are also likely candidates for the 2012 MLB Player Draft.

The Bears’ veteran second baseman was runner-up for player of the year in the Commonwealth District. Headed to UNC Charlotte, Gallello hit .456 with four home runs and six triples.

I like how you removed the hyphen from the article… haha.
I’ll tell my dad to go down to their newsroom and let them know there isn’t a hyphen. Would have updated this a few weeks ago when it came out but they did All Area baseball the first day of my vacation so I was out of town and never saw the paper. Did read about him from time to time in game wrap ups.
Catcher Nick Daddio leads Hough with a .467 batting average, four doubles, 14 RBIs and is one of three Huskies to homer.
“I think Nick Daddio is one of the best catchers in the league,” says Cochran. “He’s a guy we depend on to produce runs and control the game from behind the plate.”
Daddio has to be one of the best names ever.
SCP 2013 JON STIRES; Lake Norman HS has committed to attend college and play baseball at the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA CHARLOTTE. Jon will join the 49ers following his high school career at Lake Norman High School.
