Some interesting numbers in the 2015 Donor Impact Report
http://foundation.uncc.edu/donor-recognition-and-impact/2015-donor-impact-report
It is hard to believe only 3202 alumni give money.
Totally believable because we suck at it. There is no unifying message on campus, we suck at making connectons with recent alumni, our communication with alumni stinks. We dont even have a clean email list.
If you spend time with the alumni assoc, the athletic department and other parts of campus you realize how disjointed we are with no strong leader. The different parts of campus fight over donors and get upset with each other. Our parking services itches to hand out parking tickets to visitors making visiting campus difficult. Heck we didnt have a unified marketing until Stake Your Claim.
3% of our alumni give.
3%
We should be embarrassed.
The school still calls my parents’ house and asks for me since they have that number on file from when I was in school and my parents were paying the bills (not that i ever would have given them my parents home phone number anyway)
I graduated 6 years ago and didn’t go to University of Phoenix. Clearly I don’t still live at home.

That’s probably an important distinction, 3% of alums give to the University, which probably doesn’t include Athletics in that report, so it might be as much as 3.5% …

…and basically, MANY of our alums don’t give a shit.

I did indeed. And plan to.give more now that i am out of school and in a steady job.
Importantly, 1955 of those donors were first time donors. Let’s on-board that many yearly and we’ll be in great shape.
This is NOT the total number who “give” (or have given) money. It is only the number who gave in this particular campaign.

It’s better than it used to be, but still a lot of room for improvement.
Attaboy, Job. Giving beats typing every time.

I don’t know, it does not mention a specific campaign, and the opening sentence talks about “another successful academic year”. You may be right though. I guess one thing to consider is where a Niner marries a Niner, and the household gives, this should probably count as two.

Are you really going to question somone about giving?
Giving to the school for education? Sports? Or does it matter. Does buying sports tickets count?
I gave a lot of money by graduating there.
Some of us think of our school as our alma mater, which as we all know is “fostering mother” in Latin. Some of us look at our school as a business entity, that after we do our business there, pay the bill, “the deal is done”, bye. That’s a choice and so be it. As for me, going to school here was a spiritual path on my life’s journey, for which I will always be grateful. And I will support it always, as much as I can.
Just to semi-argue or have a back and forth, What are you supporting? The academic or athletic side?
For me, I’ll donate through spending on athletic tickets/food. I’ve even seen a few plays there so I guess I helped out the theatre department. When the belk business college calls and asks for money, what are they going to use it for? I know a few guys that got scholarships that were in a better financial spot than I was. Shouldn’t current student tuition and fees being paying the academic side? Or someone needs to balance a budget. I get why donors donate to athletics but not so much the academic side.

I donate to both athletic and academic.

Do you know or have an expectation to what your academic donation is used for?
