No surprise on Newcomer of the Year or First team all conference albeit maybe Robert Brown, but you can’t really argue with these picks. Big Joe would’ve likely won both Newcomer and been first team if James Kelly didn’t exist. He had a big year.

I didn’t see a Conference player of the year. I assume Freeman would win it or Kelly, but Marcus Evans would be as deserving as anyone. He’s a beast on both ends of the floor, and has me worried about our tournament game. I wonder what his story is, basically from ODU’s backyard and it looks like they offered, but I’m wondering if Rice just got in early on him.

Alex Hamilton of Louisiana Tech is Player of the Year and Jerod Haase of UAB is Gene Bartow Coach of the Year.

Haven’t seen Hamilton play much, but can’t really argue. I have seen Trey Freeman play a few times and it’s hard to believe there’s many better than him.
