2018 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel
afraid Kennedy leaving now will make it less likely he will still be around when we hire our AD
not many coaches get hired before the end of the basketball regular season. We will probably have an AD by then…I hope.

I don’t know that we have an AD in place by March 3rd, but mid-March is certainly when I expect to have an AD in place.

Interim AD Mary Hill at Delaware State has been busy handing out pink slips this season. Just fired both men’s basketball coach Keith Walker and women’s hoops coach Barbara Burgess. Also fired the football coach Kenny Carter.

Assistant coach Keith Johnson will serve as interim HC for men’s hoops through the remainder of the MEAC slate for the 3-win Hornets (with 2 of the Ws coming against D-II opponents).

Dan McHale out at Eastern Kentucky after three seasons in which EKU failed to qualify for the Ohio Valley tournament during his tenure.

May be an unexpected opening in the West Coast Conference.

CBSSports.com: San Diego coach Lamont Smith arrested on domestic violence charges

Eustacy resigns, lands $750k settlement.

Interesting he got anything since he violated the zero-tolerance terms he agreed to when the CSU president vetoed the AD’s recommendation to fire him back in 2014.

Of course, after reading that Sean Miller’s contract calls for him to be paid twice the amount for a show cause dismissal vs a no cause one ($10 million vs $5 million), guess I shouldn’t be surprised!

In addition, Wildcats lost the commitment of 2018 6-9 PF Shareef O’Neal (son of NBA great Shaq) over the weekend. Number 33 prospect per 247 will play at UCLA instead.

Per this piece from the Arizona Republic , the Arizona Board of Regents are responsible for the multiple-year employment contracts of coaches, so Sean Miller’s ultimate fate lies with that group.

Per Jeff Goodman, USC Upstate has fired athletic director Julio Freire and men’s basketball coach Kyle Perry. The latter finished with a 7-25 (2-12 A-Sun) record in his one season at the helm following the retirement of longtime Spartan coach Eddie Payne in October 2017. The AD had a short tenure too having just been hired last summer.

Looks like the USC Upstate administration wanted to clean house as it makes the transition from the Atlantic Sun to the Big South on July 1st.

Softball coach good chance at being AD. He’s already assoc. they will offer him AD slot I wager. Currently ranked 27th in ESPN poll

Per Hoop Dirt, another opening in the Big South as Longwood dismisses Jayson Gee after a five year record of 42-120 in Farmville, VA.

Per Jeff Goodman etc., Thad Matta has met with Ole Miss about their opening.

FWIW, would expect Kermit Davis - a native of Mississippi - to be in the mix too.

And there’s Florida coach Michael White, who played at Ole Miss, though can’t see him leaving UF for Oxford.

Three more openings:

¤ Larry Hunter, Western Carolina (SoCon) - out after 13 seasons in Cullowhee (193-228)

¤ Paul Lusk, Missouri State (Missouri Valley) - out after 7 seasons (106-121)

¤ Dave Simmons, McNeese State (Southland) - out after 12 seasons (151-209)

Kevin Stallings out at Pitt after a winless ACC season for the Panthers.
