USC Upstate head coach Eddie Payne has retired due to health reasons.

Payne was the last coach to take ECU to the NCAA tournament (1993) and dropped 108 on us in Halton last year.

Wish him well.

And a bit of Niner trivia - during the early 1980s when he served served as head coach at nearby Belmont Abbey, Payne’s wife Ann was HC of the Lady Niners basketball team.

USC Upstate has named longtime Spartan assistant Kyle Perry as interim head coach. Served as associate HC during the previous four seasons.

Per Jeff Goodman, UC Riverside latest to pink slip their coach - Dennis Cutts - as the Highlanders finished 5-9 in OOC play. Named AHC Justin Bell interim for the remainder of the season.

The Big West program was 50-87 under Cutts and had begun the year on a high note by defeating flagship big brother Cal Berkeley.

Tim O’Shea of Bryant (Northeast Conference) has announced his retirement at the end of the season. Led the Rhode Island school through its transition to D-I during his decade as their coach following a seven year tenure as HC at Ohio.

As already mentioned in another thread, Andy Kennedy will step aside at Ole Miss at the end of the season. In his 12th year in Oxford and will leave as the school’s all time winningest coach (currently 245 victories).

Pepperdine has announced that the contract of Marty Wilson will be terminated at season’s end. Played PG for the Waves in the 1980s and then served 10 years as an assistant at his alma mater prior to being named HC in 2011.

With Eustachy and Barnes both suspended, Colorado State assistant Jase Herl will serve as interim coach for the Rams for the remainder of the season.

Change of plans at Ole Miss as assistant Tony Madlock will serve as acting head coach for the remainder the season.

FWIW, would think that Mississippi native Kermit Davis will be in the mix to replace Kennedy. Has SEC ties as both a player (Mississippi State) and an assistant (MSU and LSU).
