2020 Football Coaching Carousel

I thought the same thing until I read an article about him.

If someone doesn’t do the work and feels like they don’t deserve the money that seems fair to me. And actually D1 sports is charity and depends on the generosity of others.

ABC was real charitable to the SEC in December. Pledged 3 billion dollars over the next 10 years.

I assume they will fight hunger and homelessness with that money.

“Waiving my contract is the correct decision and enables the young men and the program to move forward and concentrate on the rest of this season,” Andersen said at the time. “Coaching is not about the mighty dollar. It is about teaching and putting young men in a position to succeed on and off the field. Success comes when all parties involved are moving in the same direction.”

Sounds like Sanchez may have coached under this guy at some point. More power to him.

Sure the SEC and Bama and such rake in money but for lower level P5s and and basically all G5’s are in operation in large part due to the generosity of donors.

ESPN being charitable to the AAC as well. 1 billion over the next 12 years.

And? That doesn’t change the fact donors make up a huge chunk of budgets.

Of course this is the challenge of the entire model right? Big paydays to schools and program from networks, which pay coaches salaries and facilities while donations are still relied upon to fund lesser sports etc

That is also why I have said if players get paid im not donating anymore because at that point there is no part of this that is charity.

Coach salaries and administrative expenses are by far the biggest costs. And monies spent on scholarships are overstated.

If we have budget issues you can look directly at Mike Hill. He’s the one that gave Ron Sanchez about $1.8 mil dollars over the last few years (and $600k this year in a pandemic while furloughing AD employees). How many scholarships could we fund with that money? That’s 10x more of a reason to stop giving than a broke athlete getting a stipend.

If you are going to take the high road then take it. Don’t be selective about it.

I dont have an issue with stipends given the restrictions placed on atheltes. Out right paying players though, thats the line for me personally.

As for salaries - it isnt even coach salaries in general. It is specifically a handful of coaches in a few sports and the very top level of the AD that combined with facility costs makes up a huge chunk of the AD budget.

I wish college athletics would pick a model of income. There is too much diversity from one program to the next when it comes to income. This translates to Alabama versus Charlotte. Not all D1 programs are created equal and they never will be because of the money flow.

Sorry to keep saying it but a big start towards leveling the playing field would be splitting television revenue equally among all d1 schools like the NFL & NBA do among franchises.Take away that huge difference between P5 & G5 revenue & it becomes much easier for everyone to compete at the same level. The blue bloods will still generate a lot more than us from donors but at least they won’t have a 30 to 50 million dollar head start just because of conference affiliation. I know it’s a dream but in a perfect world that’s how it should be.

If the NCAA cared about the overall product this would happen.

Les Miles has always seemed like a real flakey guy…it’s almost not surprising

Good read from Rittenberg:

They need to remind us again he led Wisconsin-Whitewater to 6 DIII championships.

If the author is afraid of wearing out the number, s/he could call them a “half dozen”.
