2021-22 MBB - Charlotte @ FIU, 2/7 5:00 PM CUSA.tv

Panthers (13-10, 3-7 C-USA; NET #242) are 10-2 at home, though they did lose to visiting LA Tech 86-82 yesterday.

That court is so bad

Traveling with one days rest could be tough, hopefully coach has them ready. FIU should be an inferior opponent but I know thats kind of out of our programs vocabulary at this point…

They are 10-2 at home so we better be ready to play

Don’t get your hopes up, we only won 1 conference game on the road this season and it was barely beating rice…

Rah rah lets win enough to keep our terrible coach. I think this is what im supposed to be saying anyway.

CUSA TV is not gold standard.

So what happens if Ron goes on a run here - NIT or NCAA bid from winning tourny? Would you change your opinion or double down on wanting him out?

We both agree that run is very unlikely, but this is college basketball - crazier things have happened.

What I want the team to do is irrelevant since I don’t have any impact on the preparation or outcome of the game. Just along for the ride until the end of the season.

Only way NIT happens is if we win the regular season but lose in Frisco. With the NIT a 32 team tournament and a fall back for the majority of non-P6 conferences whose regular season champ doesn’t punch their respective NCAAT ticket, that’s an unlikely scenario for us.

I want the program to be relevant again. Anyone not achieving that as a Head Coach does not have my vote of confidence.

That said, I’m not going to root against the team. Though in a way that may be better than apathy, which is the route too many of our fans have gone.

When I think about how strong this fanbase could have been right now if we had kept winning for the last 15 years… Given the growth of the university. Sigh… Halton might be too small.

Totally agree - just throwing out what ifs…

I think its so incredibly unlikely, its hard to imagine, but here goes.

The results have not mqtched his philoaophy at all. I still believe when we win it is in spite of coaching, not because of it. I dont hear the type things id expect a leader to say, he doesnt appear interested in winning championships, not that i can ever recall him saying.

Im actually kinda terrified of a scenario where he gets us to the dance on a fluke, we lose by 35 on national TV embarassing the hell out of ourselves, and because he got the the tourney, he buys himself another 5-7 yeara for ending our NCAA drought. Because i absolutely dont believe he can get us to be consistently competitive.

If we made the NCAA tournament id absolutely root for us. No way i could root against us in a CUSA title game, but id still have grave concerns about the long term implications.

Fortunately, i dont think Ron ia capable of either so i wont have to worry about it. Then it just goes back to this scenario where every game we win just slightly increases the chance we dont get a new coach.

I think I’m going to try adopting a :vertical_traffic_light: light ranking system for myself for our coaches, all sports.

:red_circle: - get’em out. Now.

:yellow_circle: - jury’s still out, possible hot seat, or possibly on the brink of winning me over.

:green_circle: - Coach has my confidence (this doesn’t mean they can’t be having a rough patch)

Right now, Ron is a stale :yellow_circle:. If I was driving, I wouldn’t risk it.

Healy went from :green_circle: to :yellow_circle: over the past 2 seasons.

Woodard & Langan are :green_circle:

It should take some time / multiple results to move from one status to another. Hopefully it will help me not knee jerk after wins and losses.

That said, I understand if other fans have different ratings.

The sad thing is that the athletics program as a whole is mired in a long, deep, and stale :yellow_circle: for me. And too many people have checked out because we can’t find reliable coaches in either revenue sport.

I like that method. I would be with you I think with all of those. With Will its mostly how we are handling the staff, more than the results from last season. I am not holding COIVD year against any of them. Last year was awesome before it wasn’t. Second half of the season showed we needed to make changes and he is making changes. How we are making those changes though is very concerning.

What is the status on Musa? I am assuming he is out the rest of the year since he never came back to the bench and could not put pressure on it.

I hope the minutes go to Rob. I believe he has a lot of talent, but just does not realize it yet.
Offensively, he is a great shooter and our best finisher. Defensively, he is not the best 1 on 1 defender, but has great recovery and can provide good help. Not sure what he is missing that he does not play more. Reminds me a little of Brice.

For us to make the NCAA… We’d have to win out including the CUSA tournament.

To make the NIT… We’d probably have to win out and lose in the CUSA championship game.

If Sanchez can do that then he would obviously have figured something out in a huge way. Motivation, style, rotations, game management…Would all have had to dramatically improve to unreal levels.

If he can do that… He can absolutely stay because that would be amazing and impressive beyond comprehension.

But my guess he Sanchezes to a. 500 or so record because that’s what he is and why I want him gone.

But if he can pull it off… I will eat a double serving of crow in front of him and double my annual donation and direct it all to basketball.
