We have 8 threes at 38%. Nice.
Reggie Walker on color tonight:
Reggie is doing a solid job.
Ok theoretical question.
So far Patterson looks good.
Does he have a lower ceiling but higher floor than Clyde Trapp?
Yeah Iāve enjoyed him providing the color commentary
This feels like the first time since ive followed the program starting in 2010 that we dont have the highly athletic, high potential player that is also good for 5 boneheaded TOs a game. Maybe Ronās pillars are actually starting to pay dividends.
Itās just one game but I think overall weāre better than last year.
That was a fun game to watch.
I agree. Walker is solid on the espn+ broadcast with Rosinski.
I donāt think Coppin State is a good basketball team outside of Sessoms, but I enjoyed what I saw tonight. We have a lot of new pieces and several of them look like they can be big contributors.
Iām gonna temper my expectations by remembering how Soccer beat up on bad teams this season. This is probably pretty similar.
Just how good was Sessoms at PSU? He was balling out before he got hurt. Even afterwards he had that one really sick old man drive in the 2nd half.
Stats:
Random thoughts:
*Threadgill is bigger / stronger. Still a pretty good shooter
*Patterson looks like a really solid addition. He will play a lot of minutes. Also has 3 years left.
*Berry came in and did a lot in limited minutes. Nice to see him get on the floor.
*Graves - wanna see more. He looks the part.
*Khalifa - didnāt do well posting up and drawing doubles / help. He does much better at the high post feeding cutters like last year. Love how good he is at the FT line.
*Aldrich was high energy. Couple of turnovers but I liked it.
*Millicic looks pretty raw to me. About the only negative I could come up with. Think he is gonna take a while. Luckily we may be deep enough to wait him out.
Really enjoyed the W, and I like Rosinski and Walker on the call. Good combo. I hope we get them regularly on ESPN+, since so many of our games are on there.
Im cautiously optimistic after this one. I understand the opponent wasnāt great, but rather than a bunch of guys standing around watching one player, we have a lot of guys who seem to be solid and unselfish.
Better overall playing and more balanced team play than last year.
Also, donāt discount how good it is to play well in game 1 vs an inferior opponent. Michigan is not exactly destroying PFW tonight:
We played well and looked good overall against a weaker opponent that I would guess ends up 250+. The game was never in doubt in the 2nd half unlike last years game we saw back and forth against lesser competition.
Iām kind of surprised that over half of our shots were 3pt attempts against a smaller team.
Whatās the word on Brice Williams coming off of the bench? And even Braswell. I didnāt see that coming. I havenāt seen enough of the new guys but if Williams and braswell are coming off the bench maybe the team is better than I expected. Weāll see.
Biggest issue tonight was defense. They were getting to the rim at will. That needs to be fixed
Enjoyed the game. Team looked really good offense flowed very smoothly. Limited turnover and boneheaded plays. Still need to tighten up the D. Still amazed at how loud Halton can be even with smaller crowds. Kudos to the student turnout as well. Got win #1 under our belt. Now letās go get more.
Good way to start the season off. Best part to me was when they tried to make a run midway through the second half and we handled it and flipped the script and stretched the lead to close to 20 in new a few minutes. Good sign of character from a young/inexperienced team.
