2022-23 MBB - Coppin State @ Charlotte, 11/7 6:00 PM ESPN+

Biggest takeaway for me was how amazing our ball movement was. Crisp, quick, clean passes whipping around to find the open man or a cutter. It was a thing of beauty.

Totally agree. Brice had several passes that lead to the assist.

Equal talent to Trapp, and more if a team player !

Clyde Trapp sucked!! Let’s move on from him.

Nice win tonight. Good team basketball.

Well, we know not to get our hopes up too high, but damn that sure felt great after the shitshow that was this weekend. Crowd was small. Early start on a weeknight is never great for the season ticket holders, but fortunately we were right next to the students so there was some atmosphere. As the game progressed, my daughter was having much more fun and really getting into the game.

Usually, with a Ron Sanchez team, we’d let a team like this creep back in it in the 2nd half after building a 15 point lead. Instead, this time after hovering around that mark for what seemed like forever, we ballooned it to 25. So that’s new. Really had a great time, hope this left an impression on my daughter.

Oh, and @49er1 , we did eat at Boardwalk Billy’s before the game, and I had the East Carolina style pulled pork. If you were on the visitor bench side of the arena at all, that could have been what you smelled.

Nope. Love bbq. It was a CHEMICAL smell like a strong cleaning solution or coal tar based shampoo.

I was pleased with how we played in general.

Passing was excellent. Patterson impressed. So did Jackson. It was nice to have Brice back.

Nobody looked bad.

In typical Niner fashion though we let one guy torch us. If he hadn’t gotten banged up he might have gone for 40.

Well he averaged 12 at penn st last year. He’s a 5th yr senior legit player. Can’t stop everyone from scoring.

This troop has real potential. Not since the Colson era have I been this excited. It has been addition by subtraction. I knew about the 2 exhibitions so was cautiously optimistic. IMO Coppin played tough in your face defense which made it more impressive. We may be in for a special year

I don’t think Millicic should be starting. He didn’t show me a lot. Start Brice instead.

I agree. Fuller did mention at the tailgate saturday that Millicic is the total package 3 Ron loves and that he would have gotten a lot of minutes at UVA had he stayed. I am with you though Id rather have him come off the bench.

I hope so. When is the last time we had a bandwagon to jump onto?

I heard about the scrimmage against South Carolina, but what did you hear about the scrimmage against Coastal?

I don’t buy the “addition by subtraction”… this team would still be better with Young, Butler and Trapp on the roster. Even if you swapped them out for bench guys (Berry, Graves, Folkes). Addition by addition would be a better phrase.

Loved Austin, Trapp from what I have heard wasn’t a good fit in the locker room. He had talent though thats for sure. One thing that stuck out to me last night on the post game radio was Threadgill talking about how quick the ball was moving and that it never got “stuck”. I love Jahmir and I would prefer him still be there, but cant help but wonder if that comment was about how dominant Jahmir was with the ball.

I would disagree on the point that I think our ball movement was better last night than I remember it being last year. That said, I don’t know if we have “that guy” to hand the ball to when it’s time to win a game. Tradeoff.

Also, as someone else said much earlier in the thread - we still cannot stop drives to the basket.

And Coppin State was small.

I think we are going to struggle with the aforementioned drives, bigger teams pushing us around down low, out rebounding us, and defending us better, any night when our 3s aren’t falling, and I wouldn’t wanna be in a 1 pt game under a minute to go right now, because I don’t know who wins us the game.

These are all issues we need to address before conference play.

I think that is partially based on the defensive set. The entire idea of the pack the line is to force teams to shoot shots they don’t want and deny penetration. The problem is now everyone wants to shoot those long distance shots so it extends the defense out and makes it a challenge to continue to deny the penetration. At least that’s the one time basketball player casual observer view I have of it.
