2022-23 Niner Basketball 🏀

clt says the freshman at Charlotte were in preschool for that temple game.

so glad to leave cusa, AAC should have a ranked team or 2 every year

No UH etc so having ranked teams in AAC will be sporadic. Ditto on multi-bids.

Remaining promotions:

Anyone else think it is kind of sad that this was the last time we beat a ranked team in Halton? I remember when I was in school, 97-01, this was a regular affair. I hope basketball can get back to where it was back then.

I go back even to when it started under Bill Foster, so I’ve seen the heights and the depths and can pick out the good and bad in all the various teams. Bill was probably the best recruiter, Lee Rose the best bench coach (though a poor recruiter, the combo of Jeff & Melvin & Melvin & Bobby were awesome and it didn’t hurt being in one of the top 4-5 best basketball conferences either. I am a diehard bball fan and bleed green and really want us to get back to being great again. I’m also realistic enough to accept that we’ll never have sustained success (top 50 year in and out)and also know that there are over 300 D1 teams now and most don’t have great coaches, even in the P5 conferences and exist year after year in the middle I would absolutely love it if we can catch lightning in a bottle again and have a run of some real good years with hopefully a bottom floor of .500. Yes I want to celebrate conference championships, but most years if it’s not a tournament championship, then the best we’re getting is the NIT with the way the P5 and TV have things locked down. It sucks and can be depressing at times, especially where 1 or 2 players could make the difference. I’m enjoying watching this team play together this year while still being painfully aware of it’s deficiencies and hate the losses just like everyone else that’s a true Niner fan. Hopefully the staff and the players figure out what it will take to get over the hump and if not we’ll rince and repeat the cycle until we do. A true fan supports their team no matter what, even when they make it hard.

It doesnt need to be catching lightning in a bottle. We can just consistently win and be a really good program

Win when?

Not with ron in all likelihood

One can only hope. Give me James Borego and an experienced college recruiting staff with established networks and bring it on. ( with maybe some Biff NIL overflow money)

That win vs ranked temple prompted Bobby to commandeer the PA mic and yell that iconic (but now kinda sad) proclamation that “THE NINERS ARE BACK!!!”

My opinion is Hill & Sanchez success and future is 100% correlated…. not sure they will let Hill hire another major program Coach. But who knows, lets see.

I think Mike gets a do over with each sport. He got one with Will to Biff and if Ron can’t get it done, Mike will get a shot to get a new guy. I do think it helps that with Ron the resume was perfect. Mike didn’t roll the dice, he hired what was considered a great coach ready for the head role. On top of that Ron hasn’t been a bomb. He’s been mediocre. Mike gets another shot at it.

Of course Hill gets a 2nd basketball coach hire. Unreasonable to think he wouldn’t.

Some odd cats up there in Davidson.

FWIW, that’s nothing new at DC and not original either.

BTW, see that one time Niner recruit Josh Banks of Charlotte had 2 points off the bench for VCU. Not much but still the winning margin for the first place Richmond Rams.

BTW 2 - Sort of surprising the Cats were in the game since they were without second leading scorer and lead assist guy Foster Loyer (15.3 ppg, 4.6 apg) due to illness and leading scorer + rebounder Sam Mennenga (16 ppg, 7.7 rpg) was basically a no show with just 5 pts and 2 rebs tonight.

clt is surprised how poorly Davidson is playing,
