Niners up 6-2 heading into the 7th. Been a bit of a snoozer since the 2nd inning. Dragum got hit in the head by a pitch I believe, but his helmet took the brunt. 2 batters later he came home on a 3 run Bomb that put us up 5-2. We added another 1 a couple innings later.
Shaky bullpen gives up 2 in the 9th. Had to bring in Bruce to close it.
Our PBP guy (Dan?) is from wherever they pronounce words that start with CO as “key-yah” and there were a ton of names today: Collin, Colby, plus the typical Count… etc… Like nails on a chalkboard to me.
He does a good job otherwise. But I have a thing about accents like that.
The App transfer and was there another guy who pitched to a couple of batters before him (?) were not effective. The guy who came in early after we gave up 2 runs in long relief and basically became the starter did a very nice job. Really settled things down.
I’m just questioning how reliable our hold / setup guys are? I think we have some solid long relief and Bruce seems to be a solid closer. Rest of the bullpen needs to be figured out though, so we can start stacking Wins and improve that RPI.
We are still finding out who will be effective in different roles as we head into conference play next week. There were so many positives to take away from this game, but let’s talk about the only minor issue.
Hale Sims struck out the first 2 batters in the 9th which was great to see. He just couldn’t close the door and walked 2 after that. Thats not going to work, so a pitching change was made. Martinez came in and gave up 2 hits in a row so we went to Colby. He walked the first batter, but got the fly out to end it. We are much better at not giving free passes this year, but that has still popped up from time to time. We have some quality arms in our bullpen, but as with most teams the deeper you get, the less effective they can be. Overall I think we are pretty solid there. Especially the top end.
