Meh. I like it better than Dooley, I had seen enough of that. I like it better than some other names out there including Lutz. It’s annoying we didn’t even interview anyone or wait a week to see if anyone expressed interest and let the process flesh out some. The AD worked with him, clearly was his guy and that wasn’t going to change regardless though. Apparently he’s the defensive coordinator, and that’s what Barnes refers to him as. So we’ll see, at least that would be an identity. If he hits the portal hard this spring he’ll win me over.
I though Dooley was your savior when he came back.
As bad as Charlotte has been, ECU only has 2 years with a winning record since Dooley first coaching tour with ECU.
Last time ECU made NCAA tournament was 92-93 and that was with a losing record.
ECU has so much history in basketball. They are the definition of a loser.
Cool. What’s your NET the last few years. As bad as we suck I’m pretty sure we’ve been better, and I’d rather have this unknown than the known you got at this point, or Dooley. At least there is some hope he might be special.
History really doesn’t matter, all those coaches that sucked were gone, and most sucked at other places too. Two of them are in the top 5 losingest coaches of all time. It just takes the right coach. Look at Gonaga or Butlers history before the last time Dooley was here in the mid 90’s.
We got money now too that if he’s good we can pay him to a certain level and hopefully retain him longer. Were already paying about twice what UNCC was. If he wins big that’s a good problem to have anyway.

That’s right. If nothing else at least we started the clock on the next hire earlier. I probably would have taken next year off if not. I couldn’t watch anymore of Dooley ball.
I’ve found things I liked and disliked about all our previous hires this century. I actually kind of like the tabula rasa aspect of not knowing much of anything about this guy. It’s like Christmas. No clue what we are getting. It might suck hard but so what, I’ll take that swing to get out of 180 purgatory. Just bad enough to not get fired. I thought that might happen.

Speaking of Xavier, associate HC Jonas Hayes is serving as interim HC. The one time UGA player and assistant was a favorite of many Georgia fans, former players, etc to replace Crean in Athens.
