Rothstein corroborates Goodman on Konkol leaving LA Tech. Figured there would be an opening in C-USA - just thought it would be North Texas first.
Been reading up on McMahon. Played SG at App State for Buzz Peterson and then began his coaching career in Boone as a student assistant under Houston Fancher. Then spent time as an assistant under Peterson at Tennessee and UNCW, as well as returning to App as a full time assistant with Fancher. Ended up at Murray State in 2011 as an assistant under Steve Prohm. Was set to join the staff of Eric Konkol at LA Tech in 2015, but then promoted to HC at Murray State when Prohm left for Iowa State. And now heading to Baton Rouge to clean up the Will Wade mess.
I guess this might answer one of the questions I was having about the move to the American that I was wondering about. If we donāt fire sanchez this year and all the good retreads get picked up this off season. could we actually poach a good head coach from one of the other lower G5 conferences like the sunbelt and or MAC?
Certainly hope we wouldnāt limit ourselves to 5 conferences when there are 32 in D-I hoops. P6 hires during this carousel include coaches from the Horizon, Ohio Valley, SoCon, WAC, and West Coast conferences. Once Saint Peterās season is over, you can add the MAAC to the list.
If our rehire had his resume I donāt think anyone would complain or have an issue with him returning.
Just catching up on this thread. Arguing with WH shows about who sucks the worst is just so damn depressingā¦..
Oops, sorry run, I hit the wrong reply button, not gunning at you
clt says an AAC school is taking an incoming AAC coach
Had McCasland pegged to land at a P6 school unless heās just tied to the DFW metro or SMU is certain that the Big XII isnāt done expanding. Hmmā¦
Oh, I bet SOMEONE would.
That SMU job probably pays now $2m/yr, regardless of conference
I too would hope that Mike Hill would cast as wide a net as possible to find a new new coach if and when the time comes. I was always just wondering how much leverage being in the american would give him in helping get the guy he wants. I mean one of the biggest reasons I really wanted sanchez gone this year was because I was worried a program like rhode island would grab a guy like archie miller and he would officially be off the market with us having no shot at being able grab him because it might be seen as a lateral move. but could it be possible that we can still get him now if sanchez fails again? I wanted chris mooney but I figured he would have to get fired at richmond before we could make a move on him. but with him being able to beat iowa I thought that idea would be off the table too. but if he barely misses the dance next year because of a low perception of the A10 could we make a push for him to come here if he wants to coach in a conference with more chances at at large bids? And before Tulsa made a move to hire Eric Konkol I was also wondering if it was even possible to steal a guy like him that seemed to show some promise in our own conference if he knew we were moving up a conference like the American. Middle Tennessee seems to be doing pretty good with Nick McDevitt so far. If next year he barely misses an ncaa bid because cusa is a one bid conference could we steal him away while we make our exit from here? those are just some of the things Iāve been wondering
10 NCAAs and 1 NIT out of 15 eligible years, 3 S16 and 4 E8, 5 30 win seasons, only 4 seasons under 20 and 11 top3 or better conf finishes.
That is really hard to have any issues with. Shows that Zona is at a different level of expectations and works out great for X.
No doubt that SMU can pay more - as well as afford a buyout of his UNT contract - but as I said before, just thought heād be moving up to a P6.
You severely underestimate our NNN fanbase.
