There were actually around 150 scholarship players still in the portal once the walk-ons etc were subtracted. Then any 2+ time transfers pretty much unavailable this season with the NCAA approving very few waivers, so that number likely even smaller.
Ron’s situation is different. Any hire we would have made, they would have been leaving for a “better” opportunity. Ron simply quit, while still having a contract. Players are going to be hurt whether the coach leaves in Mar, Apr, May or June.
The only outcome that would have been better than Sanchez quitting is Mike Hill firing his losing ass long before
Better pay maybe better opportunity is debatable after the past 18 years and 2 different ADs.
I can see the move in June to the P5 where you are set for life and limited opportunities. Can’t see it to Charlotte unless it is your last shot.

We saw how well a prominent P6 did with an unexpected opening last June. Ended up taking the same route as we did.
