They donât even attend games at Williams Minge.
This will be the most anticipated ECU-Charlotte game since Clay Aiken Bobblehead Night, 20 years ago!!! Halton was sold out!!!
I was going to mention this. This is also the day the Panthers beat the rams in the playoffs in OT. Sadly my dad passed away early that morning after a long stay in a nursing home. For me an unbelievable mixed bag of emotions from sadness to elation. My dad was a great sports fan and would have totally understood.
I actually didnât get to Halton until halftime because we couldnât leave the TV during the double OT Panthers game.
They turned the tvâs off upstairs so people would leave and actually attend basketball.
This was in the time before full on internet and people in the stands had little mini portable tvs. Just before Aiken was to make his first appearance, word filtered out through the crowd that the Panthers had scored and won. Of course, there was quite an uproar of cheering. Just then, Clay made his first appearance out of the tunnel and I thought " I bet that dweeb thinks we are cheering for him, but we ainât" That was a memorable sports day. I honestly had forgot who our opponent was.
I feel like @run49er was sitting a couple rows in front of me in 226, maybe someone with him was watching the game somehow, and he stood up and started cheering and told all of us that Steve Smith had scored. Then we kicked ECUâs asses on the court. Great day.
Someone had it on a radio or tv in the stands because during a lull in the gameâŚwalking the ball up the court or starting an offensive setâŚan entire section started cheering loudly and it began to spread.
I think the PA announcer announced it a few seconds later.
That was an awesome day and an awesome experience.
Definitely one of the many memorable moments in Halton back in the day
clt says that was definitely a memorable moment at haltron, glad ecu stunk and allowed us to focus on two games at once
a few weeks later, we saw a nipple during halftime
Wasnât me. I was in 111 for that game.
If I told you guys before the season that we would sell out Halton for the ECU game, what would you have thought the reason would be?
- Free Beer for the 1st 9000 fans
- Free Bojangles buffet for all in attendance
- Lutz was named HC
- Someone on our team or staff was dating Taylor Swift
They had the Panthers game on the tvs in the lobby/concession area also. My daughter and I were standing out there in a mass of people watching it as wellâŚcanât remember at what point they turned it off though. My wife was keeping me updated on Panthers game from home (with our young son) as well.
Oh heck yeah!
Oh wow!
clt says having Lutz in Haltron is worth an extra 5 pts
clt says free beer at a Charlotte ecu game would be chaos
There were a couple of fans sitting close to the court across from our bench that were clearly watching the Panther game and reacted. I remember the PA announcer saying âTouchdownâ after Steve Smith scored. I canât believe thatâs been 20 years ago, geez.
