Some Q&A from Hunter
I’m guessing that is for the recruiting class of 2025.
It’s 2.5. The O/U win total for us
Yea! We’re average!
Weird flex for the USF fan who posted that on AACBBS.
I need to see annual graphs for the last 8 years
That’s a perverted thing to write.[quote=“cibik02, post:1192, topic:36587, full:true”]

Charlotte ranked #13 of top 25 transfer portal recruiting.
Charlotte ranked #75 in comprehensive recruiting by Rivals.
What a joke. We shoukd be way higher
Speaking of jokes, 247 sports ranks Charlotte at #129 in recruiting.
On3 rank #89.
Where’s the love man???!!!
We landed a 4 star high school AA. No reason to be that low. Lazy reporting
Biff gave us some insight on the O-line and the Front 7 on D, when he went on the Al Wallace Show on 730. We can start to piece together a depth chart.
Here’s who he listed as our O-line:
RT Jasper Parks – (Sioux Falls)
RG Ja’Khi Green – (Maryland)
LG Kevin Williams (Nebraska)
LT Lucas Gramlick- (UCLA)
He didn’t list a center but I guess it will be either Andrew Adair (JMU) or Tyler Thomas (Grambling State)
Here’s the defensive ends he listed in order:
DE Eyabi Okie-Anoma –(Michigan)
DE Julius Welschof- (Michigan)
DE Demon Clowny- (Ole Miss)
DE Stone Handy
DE Mike Kelly
DE TJ Butler (Maryland)
The defensive Tackles:
DT Jalar Holley
DT Isaac Washington (Butler CC)
DT Katron Evans (Jackson State)
DT Jonathan Wallace (Holmes CC)
DT Dez Morgan
DT Miguel Jackson
The Linebackers:
LB Nikhai Hill-Green (Michigan)
LB Derrik Boykins (South Carolina)
LB Demetrius Knight (Georgia Tech)
LB Prince Bema
I think you mixed up RT and RG and i think center will be king
That is a lot of quality at DE.
The two deep Phil Steele listed in his preview after talking to the staff was as follows:
QB - Jalon Jones, Micah Bowens
RB - Durrell Robinson, Shadrick Byrd
WR - Jack Hestera, Randy Fields
WR - Jarius Mack, Roger “Fresh” Waters
WR - Jaden Bradley, Sean Brown
TE - Gus McGee, Jake Clemons
C - Andrew Adair, Tyler Thomas
RG - Jonny King, Panda Askew
LG - Kevin Williams, Boston Brinkley
RT - Jaspar Parks, Johnathan Bass
LT - Ja’Khi Green, Lucas Gramlick
The OL goes: 6’4 320 at C, 6’3 290 & 6’5 338 at G, and 6’7 320 and 6’6 305 at OT.
2nd string is almost the same size: 6’3 310, 6’3 291, 6’3 295, 6’4 290, 6’8 320 (plus 6’7 323 and 6’8 360 additional OTs)
This will be, IIRC, by far the largest OL we have ever fielded, and deep too. We will not have games where we are wondering why an FCS team looks bigger than us in the trenches. Heck, even our typical rant about how much bigger FAU was won’t be accurate anymore. FWIW, FAU’s projected line goes: 6’4 297, 6’4 320, 6’2 300, 6’8 315, 6’6 313.
We compare very well.
Defense:
DE - Julius Welschof, Michael Kelly
DT - Jalar Holley, Austin Fontaine
NT - Dez Morgan, Jonathan Wallace
DT - KaTron Evans, Isaac Washington
DE - Eyabi Okie, Demon Clowney
WLB - Derek Boykins, Osita Ekwonu
MLB - Nikhai Hill-Green, Prince Bemah
CB - DeAndre Hollins, CJ Burton
CB - Dontae Balfour, Dontez Fagan
SS - John Higgins, Wayne Jones
FS - Al-Ma’hi Ali, Steven Parker
A few notes here: both this and the Offensive 2 deep were made before Phil’s mag went to print, and there have been roster additions such as Dom Shoffner and Damani Dent that might impact this list (though Shoffner appears to be QB3 per Hunter Bailey). I think Dent might be on the 2 deep at CB.
We could easily go 3 deep at most positions. Check out some other names not listed above: Demetrius Knight LB, Marcus Robitaille S, Maguire Neal CB, Stone Handy DE, Miguel Jackson DT, Zion Shockley, Emmanuel Balogun, Malik Puryear… We are deep on defense.
There are a bunch of younger guys not listed on the 2 deep as well. Guys that I think will be big contributors in the future. But Poggi stacked this team with older guys because he wants to win now. Those younger guys will give us even more depth this season, and they are names you know if you paid any attention to to recruiting.
Trenches - Jonathan Wallace @ 6’3 394 is an official large human being. If you haven’t seen him yet, you won’t miss him when he lines up at DT. Space Eater is an understatement. I think he might have a couple of small moons orbiting him. I can’t remember if Kevin Williams played in the spring game, but he is also an absolute unit at 6’5 338 and playing LG. We have 4 LTs to play beside him, and Ja’Khi Green is the SMALLEST of the 4 at 6’6 305. The UCLA transfer goes 6’8 320, while Hampton (6’7 323) and Wilkins (6’8 360) are both massive too. I might be focusing on size of our lines too much, but if you didn’t see the spring game, I think that’s going to be one of the biggest shocks. The other I think will be seeing an actual pass rush as we can bring it from our edge guys.
Poggi also quietly improved our kicking game, as P Grant Gonya looked extremely impressive at the spring game, and Jake Larson looks to be a very reliable, proven kicker. Couple that with our improved depth, and I suspect our ST play to be noticeably improved as well.
I’m curious as to what other camp revelations will come out, but aside from the passing game being a bit of a question mark, and wanting to see how improved our DBs are, I feel really good about this roster. If the staff can get these guys all rowing in the same direction, this should be a really fun season.
I have trouble seeing welschoff starting over handy
I expect some shifting of that 2 deep, though I am not so sure on that point. If he does, it just means he is really good as Handy has great athleticism (long and super quick) and a high motor (his biggest problem will apparently be focus). I think Knight will be on it at LB, among other things. I was also surprised to see Brinkley on the OL despite having good size, as he is a RS-Fr. If he has worked his way into the top 10 on OL, says a lot about his ability. The Pembroke (Brown) kid at WR was also a small surprise.
Couple thing…
Is Ike White (still) hurt?
I don’t see handy or burton not starting
Who will be the kick/punt returners. Byrd was good but I like see him more/just at rb.
