Sad to read that Chris Vanniniâs preview of us is as lazy as any I have read. He has us DFL and he based our defensive assessment on last yearâs team.

I hope everyone keeps downplaying our ability so that we can use it as âtackling fuelâ. I just donât really give a damn about any âanalystsâ forecasting, previewing, breakdowns, etc. Most have shown that they spent all of 3 minutes on most and with each team in college football being a constantly rewritten book, it makes these types of write ups even more irrelevant. These individuals need to keep justifying their jobs by creating these types of analysis.

This series of events doesnât get the recognition it deserves.
TCU ending their 102 game rivalry series is horseshit though. Total UNC-CHeat level move.
Is it really 102? I pulled that # off an SMU fan post.
Another one that does not have us DFL:

28:38 mark - just listen to these guys laughing at us. Their guest considers himself a sophisticated analyst and says we have the worst defense in the country and will (he is projecting us to) give up 40 points to the average FBS team.
Again, I take all of Poggiâs boasts and bravado with a grain of salt - itâs fun and it fires up the fans and the team. But I will be absolutely shocked if we are anywhere near as bad on defense this season as we were last season. I expect us to cut that PPG # in half, at minimum. More if the offense can help by controlling the clock and limiting possessions.
The new clock rules are going to make games way more interesting too. The running clock especially (only stops on 1st downs inside the last 2.5 minutes). That rule change is going to limit possessions and throw the tempo ratings for guys like this podcast guest all out whack. Itâs going to reward efficiency on offense and defense tremendously, IMO. On defense, not giving up the big play is going to become a serious metric, because you wonât have time to put together a lot of drives to make up for large deficits. A team that gets a 2+ score lead can run the clock, and they donât even have to run the ball necessarily to do it. A short passing game will be just as effective. Fans are going to watch in horror as clock time they were used to having evaporates on a single well designed opponent possession. Itâs another way of saying the offense can help our defense tremendously by managing TOP.
On those bases alone, I donât see us giving up 40 PPG. Our secondary will have to suck (and missing Ali will hurt, donât doubt it) for us to consistently do that. I think we will stay in games where we donât turn the ball over by virtue of these factors and a solid defense. We may still lose a lot of 20-10 games, but I just donât see us getting shelled. Maybe I am dead wrong.
I also hate the laziness in this âanalysisâ. Dude just quotes stats from last yearâs team and writes us off. I guess itâs an opportunity at the same time. Glass half full.
Anyway, he goes through the rest of the league too. The funny part is his basic excuse making for UAB and how he arrives at rating them. He uses an average of what they have done for the last few years to forecast for their new coach, etc. Itâs all so stupid.

This is a pretty neat promo. I dunno if our AD can afford it, but why not? Do this (home games only) with end zone seats that are generally GA and get people to buy in to Biff era.
Also I know my post above was long, but itâs football season⌠Anyone else ready to start talking Xâs and Oâs?
Very relevant to us:

I canât get mad about that. He made an effort to at least think about it.
Yeah, no thanks. I really think we are going to shock the conference and be much higher.
I think that is a fair assessment. You can tell he tried to factor in the transfers and changes, but facts are: last year was âchallengingâ, completely new staff and scheme, no one has see this team play a snap etc⌠The highest I have seen us on a list so far. Yes, I agree, potential to finish higher on the list.
UAB posts its first 2 deep, with a notably inexperienced left side of their OLâŚ
