2023 College Football 🏈

We were originally scheduled to play Indiana today but Mike Hill canceled the game because he wanted to go back to Florida where he and his wife use to work. Akron just missed a chip shot FG to win the game.

We also got paid more for going to Florida.

Gratuitous nut shots are always fair game, right?

Maybe we should just play five home games and two bodybag games a season if it is all about the money? I want us to schedule ourselves into the best position to win. I’ll give Judy’s regime more credit for scheduling winnable P5 bodybag games over Mike scheduling Florida, Georgia, and Ohio State.

Interestingly, I think we looked very competitive in the “body bag game” this year and the Maryland game also. The only disappointing game was the Georgia State game. That one is starting to look different now too.

It looks like our schedule philosophy is a money game, P5 home and home aimed at drawing a good crowd, localish G5 home and home and FCS game. The games I don’t understand are the non-local FCS games. South Carolina State, NC A&T, Gardner Webb all can bring a good crowd. Not so sure about Fordham or Monmouth.

Maryland wasn’t a bodybag game. They played at our place last season.

Agreed. They are the P5 home and home. Seems like UNC Cheat, Duke and NC State have or will fill that role also. The Maryland game at JRS sure felt like a body bag game.

If you are doing it for money. What is the value of starting out 5-0 and gaining momentum, new fans, media buzz, etc.

The only path to a competitive program is money. The money absolutely matters and is critical to an operational budget that needs to increase significantly to compete in the AAC. Thats guaranteed money that the program counts on.

From a fan perspective those are also games you want to go to. I don’t care about going to Indiana but I was planning on going to Florida. I’ll be going to UGA and went to Clemson and USC. From a recruiting point of view too it’s hey you are going to play against at the best.

I like the two P5 games a year model. One that maybe we can win and one that is likely a payday.

Also, playing a Fla and Md is tough to win but improves your footbal team. Adversity causes improvement. Playing SC State is an easy win but does not improve your team. But it is still good to get one easy win each year.

These viewership numbers are fascinating.

These are the real enemy / goal to conquer. Colorado might flame out if they start getting run in the very difficult PAC 12, but for now, they are MOVING the needle.

UAB - UGA drew 10% of what Colorado - Oregon did, and that’s with the #1 team playing. Insane.

clt says people were ready to see colorado get whomped
