This will actually be the third all-time meeting with Long Island. Hmmβ¦
WERE GOING TO TURN LONG ISLAND INTO A SHORT PENINSULA.
why is a team from long island sharks?
OK, technically this will be the first ever meeting with the LIU Sharks. Back in 2018 Long Island University - a private higher ed entity with its main campuses in Brooklyn and Brookville (LIU Post) - announced that the respective athletic programs of D-I LIU Brooklyn (Blackbirds) and D-II LIU Post (Pioneers) would be merged into a single D-I program, which would be operated by the Brooklyn campus beginning with the 2019-20 academic year. Sharks nickname was the student + alumni winner among a contest that also included Eagles and Falcons.
Glad they finally set a game time. It will end soon enough to get home and watch our football team stomp fau on tv.
Hope so. MBB vs Utah State last Saturday got moved up so Aggie fans could go home and see their football team get mauled by #19 Wazzu 49-28.
LIU Brooklyn (2-2) has one more game before heading to the QC as the Sharks host Big Apple rival Columbia (5-0) tonight.
FWIW, LIU lost season opener to Ole Miss 90-60. Columbia won at Villanova 90-80 two weeks ago.
Some vid from the Sharks game last night. LIU in white unis.
Mad respect to the Shark fanatics that go to those games
Believe it or not, LIU Brooklyn gym opened in 2006. Would have guessed something pre-WWII!
Sharks are coached by now retired NBA veteran Rod Strickland, who previously served as an assistant at Memphis and Kentucky under John Calipari and then at South Florida. Succeeded Derek Kellogg at LIU, now an assistant at Creighton.
Can you still walk up to the game and buy tickets?
Yes
FYI - no ESPN 730 broadcast of hoops today with football pregame overlap.
Game audio with Trevor Wilt will be available via the Varsity Network
