I just think it’s bad to completely ignore that talent pool. Especially now that the P4 are filling their rosters more from the portal and leaving a lot of high school talent behind. I also think it’s a bad idea to ignore because some of the high school guys you miss on might eventually end up in the portal and if you showed interest in high school they will remember that when they have been struggling for playing time on a P4 bench. Keeping good relationships with high school coaches also helps you in the portal. Not saying we should take more than 1 or 2 a year but I think totally ignoring them is a mistake. Not saying we have been. No one really knows.

You have to remember that Fearne did not get the job till late in the yr so most high school kids were gone. I think Fearne is going to use portal fir older guys

The transfer portal and the 5th year allowance have actually resulted in fewer high schoolers signed at the D-I level. (Of course, that changes with 2024-25 being the final season college players can use the extra year.) As such, some HS players are headed to D-II or JUCO to start out with. Definitely expect to see HS recruiting pick up with the class of 2025 and beyond.

One time Niner target heading to San Antonio. South Carolina native started out at College of Charleston. Nice pick-up for the Roadrunners.
Not sure of the exact date of this chart - posted on a UTSA message board back in March during the Roadrunners coaching search to replace Henson. Also not sure why the salary at Temple listed as unknown since it’s a public university.

That’s the kind of alpha dog move that makes a good portion of our fanbase tire of the excuses.

Yeah, it’s very frustrating to me. They were nothing before May, lost him & most of their production, play in one of the worst facilities in the AAC and still appear to be out recruiting us. Im just holding out hope that Fearne is recruiting players who fit his style and the sum of the parts ends up being better than the individual pieces appear to be. But I was really hoping this class would be a little more impressive after the season we just had.
They also have the nil bump that comes with a recent final four run.

And didn’t mean to sound like I was talking bad about our recruiting class. I think it’s solid and we have raised the overall talent level. I’m just noy sure the talent of the top 2 or 3 is as good as it was last season but I hope some of them step up and prove me wrong.
Watching this short vid is a reminder that coaches - like anyone else - typically have a life outside of work. If Coach Claunch is as persistent in recruiting players as apparently he was in wooing his fiancee, then he should be successful at UTSA.

BTW, see that ECU transfer Ezra Ausar headed to the Big XII. If Pirates could keep players like him, an upper division conference finish would be plausible. Of course, NIL in Greenville probably goes football, baseball, and then MBB.
