Ben McCollum and Bob Richey before we hired Fearne
FWIW, McCollum has shown absolutely no inclination that he wants to be anywhere other than in the Midwest.
How long do you think it will be before someone comes after Huss at High Point?
I’m not overly familiar with High Point but I wonder how much of their success is due to Huss or is it due to High Point spending more money for players than their competition can.
The latter. They have a lot more money than other programs in their league.
Both. Huss can recruit. He was a coveted Big10 assistant before coming to HP… meaning lots of teams wanted him. I recall Illinois trying to sway him. He’s also like 6 foot 9 and knows ball. HP Money helps recruiting obviously too.
At the end of the day, still need a coach who can get things done. If just spending money is supposed to guarantee success, then Washington shouldn’t have finished last in the Big Ten and “2 Million Dollar Man” Great Osobor would have been a favorite for conference POY. As it ended up, he didn’t even make all conference and the Huskies are wondering what went wrong after finishing 13-18 and just 4-16 in B10 play.
Its relative. HP spent way more than their competitors. In the B1G, spending 2 million is not a big deal.
Same works for us … we really only have to outspend everyone but Memphis to get back where we wanna be. But that’s still way more than we have available right now.
Hopefully no one hires Fearne away. I guess it’s a waiting game.
Have no idea how much most schools are spending on NIL but the $2M paid to Osobor has to be right up near the top this season for an individual player. Not sure what UW spent in total NIL. Then add in making Danny Sprinkle among the highest paid coaches at $3.6M/yr and paying off his almost $3M buyout at Utah State plus the $3.1M severance paid to predecessor Mike Hopkins, not talking peanuts.
Anyway, not surprised by McCollum to Iowa. That’s his home town.
Terry out and Miller in at UT Austin:
Not trying to be confrontational, but why would anyone try to poach Fearne? IMO, he has not shown to be above average in recruiting, coaching or building a coaching staff. Granted he hasn’t had a lot of time to prove any of that but patience timelines have shortened everywhere. My hope when he was announced full time coach was that he would turn us into Gonzaga or St Mary’s East with all his international connections. We finished last in our league this year. He has to prove it next year or they won’t have to poach him from us.
Believe me, I thought it was, but you can’t tell sometimes with the cat’s on this board. Some defend Fearne like he’s a relative.
McCollum a Midwestern guy through and through as he returns to his home town.
