I think you are going to see a lot of âolderâ coaches saying F it because of the new landscape. You used to recruit with your university rep, the education you will get, program rep, kids played for the pride of the university, etc⌠now none of that matters, you recruit with a checkbook. Could you imagine with Bobby Knight was still coaching. Hurleyâs next.
FWIW, Hurley just landed his second top 25 recruit and is in the mix for a third who is announcing next week. Even his older brother is pulling in 5 star hoopsters.
No doubt Hurley he can recruit. The issue is can he or anyone keep them when other programs come knocking with bags after their Fr. or So year? Coaches turn into 365 constant recruiters and re-recruiters of current players, NIL fund raisers and not coaching players. Which the âold guardâ wants to do and why they got into it. Look at Tim Brewster, he has a rep as being a professional recruiter for College Fball, one of the best. Every B-Ball team is going to need a TB. The value of a head coach is being eroded.
