Excited for basketball season, so I donโ€™t want to shit all over this too much, but itโ€™s steeped in irony that itโ€™s for โ€œcharityโ€ and the donations go to the food pantryโ€ฆ For the students who canโ€™t afford foodโ€ฆ Meanwhile each student is paying $1,000 a year in athletics fees to subsidize the athletic department.

If we arenโ€™t going to win championships in basketball and football we donโ€™t need a $40MM budget. Period. If we wonโ€™t be serious about revenue sports then stop sacrificing studentsโ€™ futures for sports that add no cache or prestige and bring little in the way of experiences for students that arenโ€™t student athletes.

Just an FYI - that $844 athletic fee will generate $26,000,000+ this year.

Th athletic fee is the dirty little secret of many athletic departments.

You can make an argument both for and against an athletic fee.

I would suggest that the fee is too high.

And therefore we should drop down a level in athletics to reduce costs.

However. No school like us is going to drop down when our peers like ASU and ECU do not because of image repercussions.

I believe the only realistic way out of this is that all athletic fees over and above support for student athletic facilities and programs (ie the pool, the weight room, the basket ball and tennis courts the intramural fields and intramural programs) be eliminated across the state which will force change on all institutions, all schools eliminate them voluntarily in solidarity or we just eliminate all sports altogether. And thatโ€™s no fun!

clt says they should have a xbox instead

Weโ€™ve made really illogical hires and weโ€™ve reaped what weโ€™ve sowed. I said we shouldnโ€™t charge the fees if we arenโ€™t going to be serious.

We have yet, in Hills entire tenure, to hire a successful coach from a lower level in the only two sports that matter. The only two sports that justify such a big budget. Sanchez may have been a top assistant at a good program but one only needed to spend a few minutes with him to realize he was a career assistant type that was full of platitudes and a low integrity guy that wouldnโ€™t hold himself accountable. He literally had no idea what he was doing and was never going to hold himself to account.

Either be serious or stop wasting kids futures in the name of student athlete experience.

Out of curiosity has anyone seen a TV/Streaming schedule for our games this year? I try to watch whenever I can, but I didnโ€™t know if I needed to purchase a plan for ESPN+ like I did last year.

Will keep on the lookout for that, but itโ€™s a fair assumption that if you want to see all of our games, ESPN+ is going to be necessary.

Tip-off times and television designations will be announced at a later date.

This was as of 9/26.
