This is my exact reasoning for why we should schedule OOC basketball games like Memphis.
There’s a reason we don’t schedule like Memphis MBB and his name is Penny Hardaway.
We can’t schedule against an ACC team because of the coach of Memphis?
The reason he can schedule like a P5 program is because he IS Penny Hardaway. Not sure how to put it any other way. No other AAC coach comes close in reputation and stature in basketball, both college and NBA.
FAU got a OOC boost last season after the 2023 FF appearance but that proved temporary.

Yep, that’s certainly the dilemma that faces the majority of AAC schools. My understanding is that we were supposed to get a home game with UVA as part of Sanchez’s departure but looks like we’re going to let that slide. Hopefully we’ll at least get a sizeable check from the Cavs.
When we still had a positive reputation we would often get ONE power conference team a year to Halton, and basically never was it a true power program. The only example I can really think of is Indiana played in Halton my freshman year (2005). Otherwise it was Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami. We got Wake on a four game home and home 6-8 years ago.
We did get Wake (when the were still good), Maryland, and Tennessee in Spectrum though. I think maybe FSU too?
There is no incentive to play us at home, or even Spectrum anymore. We haven’t been a quality win for anyone in years.
Yea, when I saw this topic pop up, I instantly thought of the Alabama game from 04-05. They were ranked #22. Great game, but that 3OT loss sure hurt.
Until the program can get its act together, it’s better that the P4 “refuse” to play in Halton.
Alabama game had one of the greatest dunks in Niner history by Withers.

Withers, one of my all-time favorite players, loved to dunk. He was a human highlight reel!

The Withers, Basden, etc team was a blast. I felt like we could play with anybody in the nation. And I mean Anybody.

We coulda had a lineup of Jackson, Igor, Williams, Patterson and pick a name. Kinda makes you wanna say F it. Kinda makes me want to throw up a little in my mouth too

I like that Fearne recruits international players. I feel like it can give the university some international presence.
Maybe it’s because I’m trying to get a PhD position at a European university.
