2024-25 Niners Basketball šŸ€

If he stays, and I think he will, we have to change our approach and we will also have to do some significant roster upgrades / rebuilding. We are losing a bunch of guys for sure and will likely lose more that have remaining eligibility. You don’t put up a record like this and not commit to a reboot.

I like Fearne as a coach. He has to change his assistants. They do not fit what he wants to run.

If he sticks with the same assistants and does not turn it around, I will be fine with next year as his last.

Agree. Our assistants are bad

I wonder how many teams are looking to hire Fearns or Sanchez.

clts likes the system, we need shooters

His coaching is fine.

The recruiting will tell the tale.

We need better players.

Cross is a good start but our assistants are bad, plus our system is a hindrance. Need a big infusion of talent in portal

I would say give him another year for sure.

Agreed on portal.

He needs to nail it this offseason.

I just don’t think we are a badly coached team.

I think we don’t have the talent.

As frustrating as this year as been, I don’t think firing Fearne is a good decision…yet. Lets see how next year plays out and who be brings in from the portal.

I dont think fearne has proven to be a bad coach but i dont think he’s done anything to be a good one. Truth is, we need to give to nil to get talent. Sorry, it can’t be a prove it first situation

We gotta get some guys that can score the ball. We seem get easy open looks but can’t knock them down.

Bottom line we have a dearth of talent

We need a shotblocker, another big, athletic wing to ho with oden, another 3 point shooter, anotherpg. We need bigs!

Also need healthy. Injuries etc happen but don’t recall it to the extent it’s happened this season.

I personally want to like Fearne, but people justifying a last place finish in his second year and say we absolutely have to keep him, while Biff finished middle of the pack in his second year and was fired is mind boggling.

Biff was a stupid hire, but we got very lucky that Albin wanted to really be here or we may have ended up with another terrible hire.

Aaron had a good stretch last year. A quality AD would have waited until the end of the season - including conference tourney flameout - and conducted a nationwide coaching search. If, at the conclusion of said search, Fearne was the best we could have gotten - he would not have been - then that’s who we should have hired.

Instead we hired a guy with no college head coaching experience (AGAIN!!!) who has completely fallen on his face in year two. He even kept the whole staff of the failed head coach who left and went home with his tail tucked between his legs, which was the most astonishing thing to me. Just like it was crazy to fire our football coach after a year and a half, Aaron has to be given another season, but I don’t even know how to gauge progress anymore. Is .500 next year good enough? Then a Fifth place conference finish? Do we care about winning a conference tourney game? When do you need to be a contender to win or go dancing? Will it be 25, 30, 40, 50 years before we break our NCAA drought?

These are all questions our leadership should be able to answer. But Mike won’t. He does not believe in accountability, except for when it comes to a bigger personality than his, which is what happened with Biff. I don’t know what the vision is, I don’t know what the standards are, I don’t know anything about this department or why in the hell I should donate to it.

All I have are platitudes, hashtags, and losing seasons upon losing seasons.

Of we had a big in the middle this year, G would have dominated at the 4.

It makes no sense at all that basketball is our least competitive sport. We haven’t been relevant since Lutz got fired except for a few lucky wins during the Alan Major era. Last year we had a run in the conference but fizzled out in the end. All the other sports can at least compete within the conference at s high level except football which is still a work in progress. Our basketball program should be on the same level as Memphis and Marquette and Clemson, heck I would take UNC-W at this point.

Fearne seems like s nice guy and a decent coach but have to question his scouting and his lack of in game adjustments. We do a lot of dumb stuff at key moments of the game playing and coaching (substitutions???) in every game. There have been moments things click but then the other team makes an adjustment and we are done. I also don’t believe the offense we run really creates clean looks. We shoot a lot of contested shots and rarely do we set up our players in favorable situations to score. Add to that our lack of rebounding and defense and the result is a last place finish and a play-in game on a neutral site.

We can’t even make the CBI this year.

Totally agree. Its trxtbook mismanagement. No excuse. Needs to be fixed asap

With this team, better not even consider spending money to be in the CBI. Sure, in the big scheme of things the entry fee is peanuts but still. Does make me wonder who has had the.worst record to ever fork over $27,500 to the promoters.
