I find myself in the same bucket of “Just F’ing Win Already”.
We don’t know if these transfers were going to stick around with or without Biff. However, if they had planned to stay if Biff stayed, then I’m not sure I want players that are completely intent on being coached to losing records YoY. This will be an issue moving forward for Charlotte even if our coach was Saban or Lombardi.
We are now in an environment where $$ rules and trumps all other factors including coaching, facilities, university, fanbase, etc. I’m certain that Rusnak was unconcerned with losing his kicking job or have a worse season moving forward. This is based on him having a pretty decent season and see the opportunity to jump in the portal for a better gig or potentially pay to play.
I’m going to delay my response and bashing until I see our new coaching staff and who they bring in as new recruits.
If this season is an example of what can happen, there are still possibilities for future seasons with these players leaving. At the end of last season, no one would had thought that we could had replaced so many players with actually better quality ones. If our coaches would had been at least par, we would be bowling this year.
Let’s see what it looks like next year and then we can bash.
Need to mentally prepare as if every single player on this roster isn’t here next year. Transfer portal is already crazy plus a coaching change. New coach is gonna wanna bring in his own guys
Purdie would be making a huge mistake to portal now.
He still needs a ton of reps and he is a deadlock starter here next year.
He could portal into an heated competition and get beat out and not even play at a P4. Or he could get hurt and do you think it’s going to be a priority to get him back on the field if there are other equals in the QB room.
He needs to stay here and get his reps in. If he wants to make the NFL he needs the game time.
Not sure who he’s taking advice from, but a lot of these young men and their families clearly aren’t playing the long game with their transfer decisions. Cash out is the name of the Portal Game.
Colleges have been doing it forever, mostly de facto but certainly so as concerns football. MLB has its full blown minor league system and now the NBA has the G League. Plus all the athletes who use college for the so-called Olympic sports. Just the way it is.
Clearly for team Rusnak and not his current 49er team. Not sure why entering the portal now versus one week from now makes much difference. I can’t blame him for trying to go somewhere he might get more visibility but I have no respect for someone who quits the “team” one week before the season is over.
