2024 49er Football Week 10 - Game #9 vs Tulane 10/31 šŸŽƒ 7:30PM ESPN

I agree with your post MOSTLY. However, the defense wore down more because THEY couldnā€™t ever get themselves off the field.

Whatever confidence Max had from the first half against UNCā€¦itā€™s gone. I bought into some hype because he was coming from Florida. Purdie is going to have up and down performances but Max just isnā€™t the guy.

I will concur with whatā€™s been mentioned, the penalties reflect coaching. I didnā€™t get the feeling last year and I definitely donā€™t this year that Biff is much of a disciplinarian. Maybe he is behind closed doors?

Tulane is a lot better than we are.

I said at the beginning of the year I was happy with 5 wins, thrilled with 6. All that is on the table.

The schedule gets lighter, but we have to play better consistently.

Big question is, will Biff show up at the basketball game Monday long enough to get on the big screen with the students and then leave ??? :person_shrugging:

That was an excellent opportunity to showcase our football program. We did up until kickoff. Tulane is an excellent team but that doesnā€™t excuse the brutal performance on offense. Pre-snap penalties and poor play calling are self inflicted wounds and while every game left is winnable we can also lose them all (maybe sans UAB) if we donā€™t clean that up.

Just disappointing, I wasnā€™t expecting a W but hoped we could give them a better game. Stinks to get boat raced with a spotlight that big.

A friend watched the game on tv and told me he cannot believe we cannot get over the hump. We should have had 21 points at half but could not convert. I told him I saw it in person and have seen it in the past. We do not know how to win.

I totally agree with this entire post

My Dad, doesnā€™t watch a lot of football any more, but watched the game last night on tv.
His unsolicited assessment was spot on via text

ā€œI watched some of the game. The offense is bad except for that speedy back. That last quarterback was terrible. Defense looked pretty good but were on the field too longā€

Itā€™s called ā€œPulling a Ninerā€

Itā€™s what we areā€¦itā€™s who we areā€¦and we do it well.

That may be the one thing we are better at than any other program in the country.

So how much are we paying Max Brown?

Agree with most everything everyone has said. I was there. Crowd was ok. Students showed up big. The tailgate was great. Costumes were incredibly entertaining. The on field showing was maddening and we canā€™t get out of our own way. Shot ourselves in the foot countless times. The offense makes no sense at all. We got beat by a much better team. I donā€™t think there was much talent difference between the two teams. The coaching difference was huge.

Tulane represented our conference well last night. We did not once the game started. Students made this old guy proud. Band was great at half. On to USF.

Iā€™ll second that, really enjoyed the band last night.

While I do agree the loss on national tv sucked, but at half time we were right there. That means for a half we were great tv and a great game to watch. Way better than what happened at Navy. We all know the negatives, but the first half was a positive, the student turnout was a positive, the tailgate and halloween was a positive, we moved the ball on the first half, we played good D except on 3rd down - so if we do some of these things the next 3 games the season isnt all lost. Given thats a big IF.

Playing Tulane was fascinating because it was what I thought Biff Ball would look like when he was hired. Tough defense, power running game, QB/weapons to keep you honest. As a G5 team playing that style well, I respect the hell out of their program. Iā€™m not mad about losing to them, theyā€™re a better team than us 9 games out of 10.

What frustrates me is this was one of those games where we could have won. Our defense played probably the best they have In the first half. Our offense was moving the ball in chunks. We were trading blows with them. We should have had a 10-17 point lead In the first half.

Did the refs suck? Sure, but we made a bunch of dumb penalties, our offensive playcalling confused me. A common theme of this program under Biff is shooting ourselves, and last night was a great example of it. Wasted opportunity yet again.

We still have three more games, but Iā€™m out on Biff because this is who we are as a program. We have the talent to play with the top AAC teams, but we will never be one because of what we saw last night.

Edit: As a last thought, Iā€™m not sure what it says about my fandom that I donā€™t even get mad at results like that anymore. Guess Iā€™m apathy is starting to set in.

Boy, are we not getting our moneyā€™s worth! Is that for 12 months or less?

Definitely need to change to the Pitt model of getting paid based upon performance.
