2024 College Football šŸˆ

I’ve said for years we need to embrace our beginnings as a GI bill school. Red white and blue stripe or special lid - something.

They could also get an extra home game, also known as a money printing press.

This is why I think they will go to 16 quickly.

That home playoff game is going to be mega for the schools that get to host.

Mega money, hype, fun and fundraiser.

Just posting this - our friends up the mountain have money concerns too…

Hence the trepidation in including them with us and ECU in realignment talks.

They are a cautionary tale as well of the just win and everything else works out message. They win at the most popular sport and the majority of their ā€œfanā€ base still don’t actually financially support the program.

It isn’t enough to win. That winning has to translate to more support and typically the support has to precede the winning. App got lucky their FCS winning and smart hires translated so far to winning but they still don’t have money.

That’s where this shift to a pro model hurts so much. Typically in prosports the winning happens first then the support comes. With a shift in fan attitudes away from the altruistic support of kids means the support before winning is going to be harder and harder to get, which means programs like ours are going to have a very tough time especially since sustained winning at our level is going to be near impossible.

It’s shifting to an aristocracy model, just as the powers that be wanted. There will be such a financial barrier that no upstart program will ever have a chance again.

I’ve never been an advocate of this, but it seems inevitable. It’d have some value for bragging rights, but also be tainted by having the likely best team not participating… Which is just another reason for the eventual separation.

I guess there’s an ultra slim chance that if it is successful / popular at showing the casual public that all of the G5 champs play good football, it could support adding more G5 champs to the CFP when it further expands.

It really comes down to how seriously the media partners took it. If they treated it like generic bowl game mid week filler, it’s pointless. If they give it prime time slots and showcase treatment, that would help legitimize it. Are ESPN or Fox willing to do so? It’s just 3 games. And if you’re going to do it as bowls instead of home games… I wouldn’t. I would do the semifinals as home games to ensure attendance, and then pick a high profile destination city / venue for the championship game and keep it there to establish some tradition. Maybe stage it the same weekend as the CFP semi finals but don’t overlap the games.

I think it’s fine in addition to a guaranteed g5 playoff spot, but not in lieu of.

An ā€˜NIT’ for college football would interest me more than random bowl games.

I am very happy we have a hotel on campus. Now when are they redeveloping that old kohls shopping center?

Eau Claire about 90 miles east of Minneapolis-St. Paul in west-central Wisconsin.

And this is useful to know, why?

I hope letting us know what brand the teams equipment trucks are is next.

Geez.

Advocate. Not dissing your post. Dissing the original tweet. Seems useless and who cares.

I had reposted a tweet from Chris Vannini about the software to be used so Brett McMurphy not only football writer mentioning the new sideline tools. Here’s the vid CV included with his tweet:

Im curious if those companies pay to have their stuff used or the conference just chooses.

ā€œWe were toldā€¦ā€¦ā€ Not surprisingly, there are people defending this nonsense.

Yeah that is some B.S.

I liked Group of Five Guys response, though I think posting it will repost the original tweet. Apologies for that:

Just further proof of the attempt to sideline non brand programs by denying them opportunities to build their brand.

" we have to protect our league, we have to protect our university "

Protect them from what is the key question that answers the riddle.
