Been reading about Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand Duplantis after watching him win gold and then set a new WR on his final attempt. His Swedish maternal grandfather was also a pole vaulter and competed until he was 80!
Other interesting thing is about his learning to speak his mother’s native language. Seems that 90% of Swedes speak English proficiently, so when Mondo spends time in that Scandinavian nation, many want to converse with him in their second language so as to brush up on those skills!
Anyway, not bad for a guy from Lafayette, Louisiana right in the heart of Cajun Country!
Watched a post-event interview with Duplantis in which he compared the crowd noise in the Stade de France to that of a football game at his alma mater, LSU. Of course, he referred to the latter as Death Valley with no qualifier. Sorry Clemson! 
And in another segment with Ledecky, she was asked about what other sport she would have participated in if not swimming. Mentioned playing basketball and soccer growing up, then went with the former as her answer.

FWIW, seems like they should have used the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium - site for rowing and canoeing. Actually the backup plan to the Seine. Hmm…
