Initially announced as a one game suspension:
Some actually complained about a headless royal during the segment recognizing the French Revolution!
In a prelude to the burning down of Europe, the Olympic torch relay was first employed by the Germans in the 1936 Berlin Games.
Yep, the modern day Olympics spectacle made its debut in 1936.
Been a decent day so far with USA picking up medals in diving and cycling, plus men’s soccer up 3-0 in the first half.
BTW, watched rugby for the first time in quite a while. Reminded that’s definitely a rough sport!
Opening “ceremonies” were almost unwatchable. Torch relay put me to sleep.
I didn’t watch, but must be a generational divide. Everyone older I’ve seen comment on them didn’t like them and every younger person I’ve seen has said they liked it. I generally find pageantry boring though, so I’d probably fall into the meh category.
Have a buddy who is a huge fan of the metal band that supposedly played. He said the song was about the French revolution and he loved it.
Just turned 65 and enjoyed the opening ceremony for the most part - especially Gojira’s metal rendition of a popular song from the French Revolution!
