Niners had shown interest in Collins while he was a prepster in NC and SC and then again via the transfer portal. Played at VA Tech and Vandy before landing at Utah State.
Wow! 500 pickaxes, wonder what they will do with the extra ones! ![]()
This one could be a curb stomping.
Utah State looks to be pretty good. They’re 7-0 and have already beat a couple of American teams easily (UTEP, and Tulane). They beat Davidson by 34.
We’ll need to play our best game of the year if we’re going to win this one.
Folks, this may be the best team we play all year (we do play Tulsa 2x and Memphis 1x). They’re the highest rated in NET for certain (#21 vs I believe Tulsa is around #39).
This game will tell us a lot about how close / far away we are from being a good team.
If the Panthers can beat the rams, then maybe we’ll get an early Christmas miracle. It’ll certainly take one to beat this team that looks like a Sweet Sixteen shoo in.
It’s a WHITE OUT. Spread the word. Our AD does a minimal job getting our fan base informed about these things.
Loss to USF dropped the Aggies 19 spots in the NET from 22 to 41.

I worry that after playing the Niners, USU has a once in a lifetime shooting night and they rise at least 19 spots up the NET…being a Niner supporter should come with a Life Alert button.
Yeah they are going to be looking to right the ship against us. We had better be ready for them to come out punching. Need to treat this like a tournament game.
Seems like the collective beatdowns Utah State put on Tulane and Davidson in the Charleston Classic gave the Aggies an inflated sense of themselves as they struggled at home vs Montana State and then got smoked in their first true road game vs USF.
Anyway, not sure what to expect on Sunday. Do know that USU can’t afford a loss to us as relates to NET rankings. Their leading scorer MJ Collins will likely have quite a contingent at the game since he’s from Clover in York County.
BTW, Davidson is playing #28 Saint Mary’s at the same time in Belk Arena, so two of the top non-P5s are visiting Mecklenburg County on Sunday.
See that Utah State was actually #19 per the NET yesterday so they dropped 22 spots.
Anyway, been reading the USF game wrap-up in the HJ News of Logan, UT. Coach Calhoun doesn’t hold back! A snippet:
“I tip my hat to South Florida,” USU head coach Jerrod Calhoun said. “I thought they totally man handled us on both sides of the ball. They were disruptive with their defense. They were the more physical team tonight.”
“We got our ass kicked, let’s call it like it is,” Calhoun said. “That was an old-fashioned ass kicking every step of the way from start to finish. Hopefully our kids respond. Nothing really went well tonight. That was a hard game to watch.”
clt says the nfl knew this game was bigly and gave the panthers a bye
