2025-26 49er MBB Game #13 vs UIC 12/21 2PM ESPN+

Can’t win shooting 31%. Thank goodness we are hitting free throws.

Do we have any desire to play defense? UIC taking wife open jumpers all over us.

Every time we start playing better on one half of the court, we lose focus on the other.

Is it too late to bring Nick Graves back and send Mingo packing?

I’d Vilar hurt. Played well in the first half and I’m not sure he has seen the court in the 2nd

Not sure if Millar is hurt but the team plays so much better with him on the floor instead of Mingo

Villar 8 pts, 0 asts, 1 TO.

Mingo 6 pts, 2 asts, 1 TO.

Bradford drives and hits a low % shot to send the game into overtime…

And then the entire team suddenly locks in during OT, outscoring the Flames 17-5. Where did that come from?

I’m hoping that UIC is a lot better than their record. I suspect they’re at least a little better. They looked it.

UIC’s starting freshman trio of Johnson, Nathaniel, and Washington almost did us in with a collective 37 pts and 16 rebs. Belmont and UNI can certainly attest to that with their recent close calls vs the Flames to kick off MVC play.

30 for 35 on free throws …

Big win?

They have to say that. This team has sone heart, but we are poorly coached. Constantly out of position, predictable on offense, we have a significant size advantage inside on every team we play but rarely take advantage

I thought Butler made a difference down the stretch and Mingo almost blew it. I don’t like the ball in his hands when we have to have score..

Actually thought Mingo did some good things on offense late. But I hate his defense, doesn’t seem to move his feet, allows ball handlers to go past him way too easily, or sucks in a teammate to help, leaving someone open.

Also feel like we misuse Bunke completely on both ends. We had one sequence where he caught the ball just past half court and then tried to dribble in against a smaller defender. Then he tries to run out to help cover up top, leaving lane wide open. Makes no sense.

Liked what i saw from Villar until he had a bad turnover where he lost ball on a drive and tried to reach back to get it while still moving away. Wonder if that put him in the doghouse.

We have some brief stretches where players work well together, then long stretches where it seems like nobody has even practiced together. Lots of dribbling on offense going no where (or getting in each other’s way). I’m sure part of that is so many new guys, but coaching seems suspect too.

I agree with what most have just said. I’m uncomfortable with Mingo’s ā€œone on oneā€ type offense, but he found open guys for a basket a couple key times after dribbling around forever. Maybe luck? I don’t like Mingo’s defense either. I generally think we look best when Villar is in. I don’t understand how we use Bonke either. We use too many players and chemistry is hard to develop this way although the team seem to be spirited and like each other. In defense of using so many players ( in this game only ) UIC is not deep. He may have tried to wear them down with our depth? It’s a frustrating year but I could see some type of run at some point this season. Our conference is weak this year.
