Niner trivia time - very first game as a D1 occurred during the 1970-71 season when UNCC and new coach Bill Foster traveled westward to play Tennessee Tech on Dec 1 1970 in Cookeville, TN. Niners won 62-49!
I love this fun fact
Bill Foster was one of the best basketball coaches we have had ( no shade to Rose, Mullins, Watkins or Lutz, liked them all) Foster built the foundation that Rose took to the NIT and the Final Four. I remember him telling my father that his recruiting strategy was to list the top 10 players in the state, cross off the first 4, and “go like hell after 6 thru 10”. Everything thing has changed in the age of NIL and portals…
Anyone have two tickets they are not using?
I wonder if we will lose some fans to the Charlotte FC playoff match including students
Not to mention “local girl done good” Renee Rapp is performing at the Spectrum Center.
I will likely be out of town Friday, so my tickets are available. PM me.
The name of his Australian offense is the Tagging Up System
That’s his transition defense not offense.
You’re right
Didn’t know John Pelphrey is the head coach at TTU. Might explain how this game got scheduled since he and Mike Hill were both at Florida when the former served as an assistant under Billy Donovan.
Also reminds me retired TTU coach Mike Sutton and Bobby Lutz are friends. Ran into the former a number of years ago at a SouthPark area function and - of course - we ended up talking hoops!
Anyway, with TTU joining the SoCon next year, the Golden Eagles will be making regular trips to Carolinas in the future.
Am I looking forward to a Charlotte game? ![]()

clt likes Charlotte and the points
Well, hopefully we fair better against our Ohio Valley foe than UTSA did earlier today as the Roadrunners fell 77-60 to SIU Edwardsville in San Antone. Ugh! ![]()
