2025-26 49er MBB Game #20 vs Tulane 1/23 7:30PM ESPN+

I watched Fearne last night and he was screaming for Mingo and Bradford to push the ball and they would walk the ball up the court. He did take Harrison out for not pushing the ball. I am not high on Fearne but he was trying to get everyone playing faster but Mingo and Bradford like to play one on five

Now there’s something you haven’t heard much around here in the last 10 years.

I swear Brumbaugh pushes off almost every time to get space. Uses that forearm. Kudos to him for continuing to do it as the refs won’t call it.

Coaching was not the problem. Fearne didn’t throw the ball away. He didn’t foul on drives to the hoop in the last 2 minutes because they got lazy with their D. Watch him next time as he was pissed at the execution.

Mingo did have a good game but he passes up throwing to open guys to play one on five hero ball. Jon Davis and You g had to do that because no one else could score. This team has options. Pass the dang ball.

Late second half, Fearne has us playing scared. That’s the problem. It’s a mentality thing.

Keep doing what got you there. Why run clock when we are already the slowest pace in the country?

…….. Yeah, Shaka Smart perfected this in the 2010s.

Last night it showed that we really needed talents like Jon Davis, Jahmir Young, and Nik Graves to finish out games with a 6 point lead. We have some tough away games coming up with both Florida schools, Temple, Wichita, Mempiss, and Tesla. We need to keep our foot on the gas the last 4 minutes of every game or else we are gonna start getting bit in the ass.

I saw a pissed coach yelling at guys to keep pushing it as well as coaching them on the sideline. Said in post game he was not happy with the finish and have to get better.
You can lay out the X’s and O’s but the jimmys and joes have to execute.

I saw us sitting holding the ball starting in the 3 minute timeframe. We’ve done that as early at 8 minutes before as well.

Have you seen these guys pass the ball.
They turn into 50/50 ball when they pass :joy:

We won and are 5-2 so far…move on. Weren’t we 3-15 in league play last year? Wins are hard to come by these days in basketball and football on our campus so just accept a win and move on. Survive and advance wins mindset.

Tulane didn’t miss a buzzer beater. They hit one at the buzzer but luckily it wasn’t worth 5 points.

This is what matters. Second in the league plus winning road games. Keep rolling Niners!

The standings show me what I thought at the beginning of the season…the Niners are definately not a last place team. 4 of our 5 conference wins are against the bottom 4 teams, only the win against WSU is a middle team victory. In other words, we’re winning the games we should, but until the Niners beat a team in the top 4 or 5 of the conference the Niners are a middle team too. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not being critical (I love winning man!), but rather not getting excited just yet…

Three of those conference games were road wins though. Even if they were against the bottom part of the conference, I count a road win as at least equal to a mid-tier home win. So it’s a little bit better than what we’re making it out to be.

It’s the style of how we do it. If we took out the last 4 minutes of all our wins I would feel a lot better. We’ve collapsed down the stretch in the same manner for 8 years straight without fixing it

Btw what is the record for an Opponent scoring in Halton? Has anyone hit 40?

Jack Gibbs with 41 on Dec 1 2015.

It started last night when he called a timeout with a little over 4 minutes left to play. We were playing good and building a lead and we call a timeout that breaks our momentum. This same thing has been happening since Sanchez got here. It’s a mentality that continues to make nail biters out of what should be comfortable wins. This team is winning despite the coaching.

100% agree that coach was not slowing the game down in the last 5 minutes.

The turnovers and fouls are all on the players. I was yelling at Bradford to pass the ball when he was getting pressed in the backcourt. We do need that strong ball handler that can hit freethrows under pressure. Bad decisions and weak-late passes at the end.

Hopefully the guys get it figured out.

Hey - We are Winning, I’ll take it.

Didn’t they have a defensive breakdown right before he called that timeout.

I seem to remember them making a mistake and saying to my buddy ā€œhe took that timeout ti try to get them focused for the stretch runā€

I am not sure I buy fearne’s coaching being the culprit last night.
