Yep, they played that game 6 years ago while Mike Rhoades was VCU coach and Will Wade was at LSU making âstrong-ass offersâ that initially resulted in his suspension and then eventually got him fired. The Rams beat the #23 Tigers 84-82 in Richmond.
Just remembered that VCUâs contract stipulates that a coach leaving for another job will schedule a future home and home series with the Rams. As such, Wade, who was dismissed by LSU in 2022 and sat out a year from coaching before taking over at McNeese State, fulfilled the back end by opening the 2023-24 season against VCU, a game won by the Cowboys 76-65.
As a reminder, Wade was serving a 10 game suspension for his recruiting misdeeds at LSU, so assistant coach Brandon Chambers was actually in charge until Wade was allowed to make his MSU debut in mid-December vs Southern Miss. The Cowboys (30-4) ended up winning the Southland and played Gonzaga in the 2024 NCAAT.
Finally, this reminds me that UVa supposedly
owes the Niners a game for Sanchez fleeing back to Charlottesville.

That really sucks, especially since UVa will play a neutral court game vs Dayton in the Spectrum Center on 12/6. Plus the Cavs will host Queens on 11/28 and have already played NC Central.
Hopefully our new AD wonât take any sh*t from the P4-football and P5-hoops schools. Hill had given the impression that a game vs Virginia would most likely have been played uptown at Spectrum or even Greensboro IIRC.
With scheduling becoming more and more difficult for those outside the P5, canât afford to pass up the increasingly rare opportunities to get a top 50 OOC team on the schedule.
Yes it was supposed to be âin Charlotte.â I would have loved to play against Ron here just because I know people would have given him a bunch of shit.

Winthrop loses 84-83 to #21 Arkansas in the âotherâ Fayetteville. First thing I checked in box score was FTs - Eagles 4-6; Hogs 20-22.

College basketball is in a really bad place now. The money is going to select only a handful of winners⌠The other 300+ teams will all be irrelevant losers with no local / regional rivalries or anything else to make anyone care.

We walked through Matthews Arena in 2000 when my older daughter was convinced she was going to college in Boston or New York City. It is a tiny arena. It seats more for basketball than hockey, but was designed for hockey. Northeastern needs an arena that accommodates both sports.
