A lot has been made of Brad Underwood’s recruitment of international players but looking like a genius for being one of very few P5s (and really only top tier program) to pursue Keaton Wagler of Shawnee, KS. Latter did get offered by Wichita State and Tulsa.

Well, that was quite a collapse by #1 Arizona. Lucky to escape Provo with the win.

Kilgo turns 90. I didn’t realize he was still alive.

He was on the mic for our Final Four run in 1977.

Wasn’t sure which thread to put this one in. Kilgo was a part of our history but also heavily tied to CHeat and Davidson and was at times critical of us.

Interest about John. Didn’t mention much about his earlier years. He may have been critical of us but he also played basketball for Charlotte College (I believe in ‘54-’55) for the same coach (Buddy Smith, played at Wake Forest) that was there to coach me (‘57-’58). Knew John growing up and went to High School (Central) with his younger brother, Paul. Both were great guys!

He’s in the alumni hall of fame at charlotte.

My recollection is that Kilgo was very critical of the dismissal of Mike Pratt. Not saying that shouldn’t have happened but then AD Clyde Walker followed that up with the worst ever Niner athletics coaching hire in Hal Wissel.
