Oh I could only dream. Back in 2018 I brought a kid to a game because I was a student then. He was excited to go to a D1 game for the first time and he got to sit in the student section with me. There were maybe 500 people in attendance. We still had the sideline section and there were probably 15 people with us in that section. Needless to say he never had any interest to go to another game or consider attending the university in the coming years
That one ECU game a couple years ago was a highlight for me guys. That’s the only time in my 10 years at that school I ever saw it full. I loved that game so much.
We’ve sucked for so so so long. I think a lot of people here don’t understand that. There was never a moment in my conscious life where this school was any good at basketball. I have never seen that stadium loud or exciting or anything.
Y’all ask what happened with the Davidson game, why people weren’t jumping in the student section, but it’s because they don’t know. None of their siblings know. None of their parents had heard of this school until they had to start applying. Nobody in my family or friend circle knew we were D1 until I told them we were.
How you claw back to anything from the pits is unfathomable. Meanwhile we’re all infighting about the coaches
What game did you attend in which there were only 500 in attendance? Only game I can find anywhere close to that was at FIU on Jan 10, 2019 that lists 724 in the box score.
I am exaggerating because it was from so long ago now. Like I said I’m pretty sure it was 2018 because it felt long before Covid. But it was empty. I was front row and there was one girl at the far end who did the niner chant but super quiet and just to herself. That was about it
I went to the high school on campus and even the teachers and students there didn’t know we were D1. Thats how irrelevant we have become over the years. I think the rebranding and move to AAC has helped. But attendance is down because we’re pretty hidden from plain view.
I’ve tried saying this before but for some reason everyone here is in denial over this
As someone who lives outside the Charlotte area i can see your point. I wear our gear and show support on my car. I don’t see our stuff very often compared to other schools. I see a ton of App and ECU. We have a ways to go.
Yeah! I do too. Just a couple years ago I was on an escalator up to the Greyhound station in DC and a girl saw my sweatshirt, waived me down, and told me she went here too. It was a nice experience.
I’ve actually seen our logo a decent amount walking around DC. It’s a great new logo. They really hit it out of the park with the rebrand. Great step forward.
I don’t know if anyone knows how to solve the competition part of our main sports yet though. Just need more eyes. But we’re too far separated from the good days of the past and today for any continuity in culture. It’s gonna have to be new
We have plenty of issues, but anyone over the age of 12 in this country who follows college sports AT ALL knows Charlotte is D1. If they don’t, its on them. They are clueless on the subject.
